Beeswax Candles and Incenses.

Filipinos are fond of 'pasalubong' or presents from travelers coming home. Filipinos are not choosy so long as one has something to give them - chocolate candies, bars of soap, perfumes or colognes. When my daughter asked what I'd like to have from London, I just said genuine beeswax candles. And I've got it.
Today, I made the trip to Christ the King, in anticipation of the solemnity tomorrow. Received my first Holy Communion after these long pandemic months. And got my candles and incenses blessed.
In case you are wondering why I have the candles blessed, it's because blessed candles will only be our available light come the three days of darkness. Only one would suffice but I've got little ones for my daughter's condo unit, another one for the Delivery Room, and the others for giving away to family and friends.

The pasalubong is a Filipino culture of offering presents or gifts.
The blessed candles is for the three days of darkness that has been prophesied in the Christian belief.

Wow. You must have plenty. Here in my country, candles are made of ordinary wax.

@eileenleyva The only thing happening right now is that everything is now spread online. Whereas, 3 or 4 decades ago this was spread only on the usual radios and television as news. I just hope this does not happen like it was before. But if it does then I guess we all have to be prepared.

@eileenleyva first time I've heard about the prophecy of three days of darkness. Will have to read about it.

@allen0187 Buy a candle first, and another one for you mother, and have the candles blessed today. The prophecy may happen any time.

Nope. I just always have candles ready for power outage.
But my Blessed Candle is in preparation of the prophecy of three days of darkness. Only a blessed candle can illuminate in that darkness.

That's a very kind thing to do. Glad you managed to get them blessed.

Thank you, yes. Fr. Sherwin, SVD did oblige at once, to bless the candles, though there was a strict protocol at the church.

That's something unique for pasalubong. So you are devoted Catholic?

I am. I take my faith to heart.
Yup, a unique 'pasalubong.' Very important to me. Couldn't find beeswax in the local stores.

My country celebrates a feast of candelaria or the blessing of candles in February. It is based on a tradition - Candlemas or the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Christ in the Temple and the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
But we could have our candles blessed also by the priest on any given ordinary day.

I haven't tasted a candle but yes, the various scents are good for aroma therapy. I love inhaling the lavender and peppermint.
