Mention diamond regarding music and everyone’s thoughts turn to the legendary Neil Diamond (not the songs with “diamond” in the titles.....). Good way to think! Neil Diamond has been an iconic figure in rock and roll for over fifty years; and, while he’s in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a songwriter, he belongs there as a performer, too. Yeah, he got all sappy in the 80s (sheesh, who didn’t....
), but the man can rock! Need proof? Here’s today’s tune!
#9: Crunchy Granola Suite
This is one of three songs in the countdown that aren’t hits. Well, this is “favorite Neil Diamond songs,” not “favorite Neil Diamond hits.”
Yes, a goofy title. Diamond said he was inspired to write it after moving to Los Angeles, where he noticed a marked increase in healthy eating (this was late 60s, remember). And maybe a little lighthearted in the lyrics (“the tune can be sung and the words all rhyme”), but it’s a crank-it-up tune.
Oh, AND Elton John ripped off the “de-de-de-de-de’s” note for note in the song “Ball and Chain.” Hope he thanked Neil.

You MAY know one or two on this list, but I doubt it. Thanks for slopping by, though.

I guess Neil Diamond once wanted to take a stage name. What? Didn't think Neil Diamond was flashy enough?
