One Hundred Year Old Slang

I recently watched a video on YouTube about popular words in the twenties. This was the beginning of a little freedom for women, especially in clothing, as their mothers and grandmothers had to deal with corsets and bustles, etc. Here are a few words mentioned in the video. Some of the words are still known, though rarely used-- 'wet blanket, dough (money), fried (drunk or high), vamp, ragamuffin.' A few had different meanings--'hot' as in stolen items, I think this is still a common meaning of the word. The word 'It' had the meaning of a sexy women. You had it or you didn't. 'Sheik' was a handsome man, 'Heebie Jeebies' meant fear or the feeling that something wasn't right, 'and how' meant it's true and then some, 'bob' was a certain short haircut for women. You are right, every generation has slang words. I remember many we used when I was a teenagers that are no more used now.

@misunderstood_zombie I have heard many new words from my niece, I could not understand at all the meaning until she explained.

Dough for money is still used alot. I never heard of fried for drunk though.

I know when I was young, bad meant bad. But now it means good. Go figure.
