Looking for a Vaccine.

We're in the age group that qualifies for vaccine now, and several of our friends, family have already received theirs. We've all been eagerly awaiting this day, but we're having difficulty with our local health department getting information. Those we've talked to don't seem to have much information themselves. In our state each local health department must come up with their own system and our local department just does not seem to have it all together yet. Hope they sort it out soon. Since many Americans don't seem to want to comply with wearing a mask and socially distancing, the vaccine seems to be the only way we have in this country to get this under control. The new administration should make a difference but it may take a while to get it all under control. Have you received your vaccine yet? Will you be taking one.

Under the American system, is everyone registered with a health authority, or is it only people who have health insurance? The important thing with vaccine distribution is that it goes to all the most vulnerable people first, regardless of their status, because the virus certainly does not know the difference. With a National Health Service, such as in the UK, that is less of a problem.

@LoriAMoore Being free is not the issue - I was asking about how the health authority knows who qualifies for the vaccine. In other words, do they have records of all those people in their district who qualify? Would they have records of non-insured people as well as those who are insured? That information is guaranteed under the UK system, so I was asking how it works in the US?

No national health program here, though we are on our Medicare program for older individuals. Vaccine is not connected with any insurance program. Like everything else right now, coordination of all things federal and a little disfunctional.

I'm waiting for the vaccine too - I'm 81 so should be amongst the first to get it. They are supposed to contact us - I've heard nothing yet.

I haven't but I have a doctor's appointment on Monday. I will talk to the doc then and see what the plan is for getting some of the vaccine. I might also call the health department. I want my parents to get it though. My dad has a doctor's appointment on the 13th, and my mom is going to try to find out if he can get the vaccine. I told her they both should at the same time.

I'm not sure when we'll be getting the vaccine. Those at highest risk will be first so we'll be among those I guess simply because of our age.

Vaccine roll out plan should be well planned and executed. Since we are not in vulnerable group, our turn will not come soon. And I am okay to wait. There will be more clarity about it by then.
