I Was Slightly Miffed

I love my garden, tend my plants with lots of loving care my husband liked to sit and watch not moving from his chair. I'd dig and hoe and feed and snip I'd be there hours and hours though hubby liked to see things grow he'd not know weeds from flowers. I won a garden contest (yay!) the press came to the house they'd want a photo so I asked if they'd include my spouse. The local paper featured us a claim to fame was ours, my man and I surrounded by all my lovely flowers. I got a gold cup with the prize but can you credit this? the name engraved upon that cup wasn't mine - but his! I was slightly miffed by this, but my husband and family all thought it hilarious - I did too eventually You can see my husband sitting here in the garden.

I'd be miffed too having done all the work and someone else getting the credit. I'm glad you can laugh about it now.

I agree. Had it been a co worker or professional rival , it would have been a tough thing to pass on the credit. Here it's okay as it stays within the family.

@jabouk There’s justice for you! Still at least you know that your hard work was awarded a gold cup, even if hubby was given the glory. It’s a bit like a man being congratulated on the birth of a child.

Ha - that's a good analogy but at least the man in that case had an initial input (Oh lor' - did I just say that???)

Ohhhh, I would be miffed too! Is it an assumption that the man does all the work? My mother in law assumed Hubby spent time gardening - um, no, it's more a bit of yard work clean up that he does - but "I" do the gardening. And I learned in this past year that it is a lot, a lot, a lot of work to maintain a garden. Boy, sounds like I'm miffed .

@Fleura My husband used to mow the lawn when he was younger, but that was the extent of it

It's a chauvinistic attitude to assume the man is the gardener, isn't it?

Same here, it's me that does the gardening, although my partner is very helpful if I need any holes digging lol

My husband compliments me a lot of my gardening and loves to sit there and read and enjoy the beauty, but he has no interest in gardening, I do everything myself,

Great poem, as usual. But sheesh, is that true? I thought those days of automatically crediting everything to 'the man of the house' were over!

@rebelann It was an annual contest and I won it a further 5 times - so my name was on it 5 times! Then they asked me not to enter any more so someone else could have a chance

@jaboUK Your yard is beautiful! But really beautiful! How much effort and love has been invested here. I know some people who work hard on their flowers, but that is not enough, in addition, knowledge and investment are necessary. Your yard is like heaven..

@jaboUK I’m just being honest because I know how hard I try to have a lot of flowers, but I always miss something I also have the problem that my yard is constantly in the shade, there is no sun at all. You are welcome
