This is Promising....

The girls wasted pretty much the whole day today out shopping, though shopping for living room furniture. They bought what looks to be two bookshelves (they're in boxes) and this electric fireplace. It looks nice, doesn't it? What they originally showed me when they were surfing the internet looked too big for the space. This is cute and perfect. My younger daughter is taking college courses online. Her next class is on Friday so they better put in a full day of work tomorrow. They came home with the new furniture but haven't put in any painting time. There is the worry that the elder daughter could be called back to work. She was laid off as of the 17th but the powers that be got angry when they saw managers and the contract company employees doing the jobs of the employees they laid off. Bring back the workers. My daughter is worried because she is busy with redecorating the living/dining rooms. She better stop piddling around and get it done. I don't want this job to take forever so hopefully a call back to work will speed up the work. I hate being in upheaval. Can't sit at the dining table to eat so we're lapping it.... and a lot of ordering in. I look forward to showing you the finished product.

I hope the girls get busy soon and get the painting done.

As I complained about their lack of progress, they complained about the "stuff" in the rooms. It's 2 marriages and 3 downsizes from my mother that has had me acquire that stuff. I told them when they wanted to do this that it was a lot of work and they said they'd just move the furniture into the middle of the room. They have since found that is not possible and are currently posting stuff and have sold a few furniture items. There's some room in there now for them to get painting.

@patgalca I guess it's a good opportunity to get rid of things you don't need.

@JudyEv They asked me the other day how many serving trays does someone need? I don't entertain much. However, I did break a tray I was using for the first time this Christmas. So my immediate response was, "Always good to have back-up in case you break one." That got a laugh out of them. Honestly, I would hope to be able to pass some of these things along to them when they have their own homes. They're going to be too broke to furnish. I have a set of salad bowl with 4 matching salad plates I got for a wedding present - my first wedding in 1985 - that I never used (I may have used the bowl). I don't like throwing stuff away in case they come in handy. I had some things of my mother's that were stored away for a few years (like 10 years) and just recently found uses for them.

Yeah, well, not much has happened since. It's very slow going. My girls got better things to do than the project they started. They keep saying I am never in that room anyway. Not true. I have been tripping over heavy machinery (different types of saws I believe) every day.

@Tina30219 Thankfully she is back at it today and muttered something about wishing it was done. Unfortunately, they are waiting on a friend who is an electrician to install a light fixture. Who knows when that will happen? They only have weekends available and then they just want to play.

@patgalca Sorry to hear that I hope they finish it up soon. It has got to suck to be tripping over that stuff.

Personally, I don't see the point of an electric fireplace when one has a furnace, it takes up space better used for a bookcase, but that one is pretty.

They are putting book cases on either side. I can put pictures on the mantle. The heating in our house is not that great because it's 4 levels. They got this for $40 from someone who rarely used it. So that's a bonus.

But won't she be glad to have her job back?

I believe so. As much as she complained about the job, I do believe she wants to go back. I think her issue is a 4 hour shift (part time) with a 45 minute drive both ways. But she and her fiance are planning to build their house so I would think she would want the continued income.

A call back to work might actually slow progress down, as that would take up most of her time. Though her getting her job back would be a good thing. More people working will help the economy grow again.

Yes, it is a good thing. I am saying if she gets called back it won't be immediate as she works shift work. So she could hurry up and get the job done before she goes back. But she has not been called back yet. The job is security screening at the airport. She already got permanently laid off from the airlines.

@kaylachan I didn't want this done. Since they are both laid off they took unto themselves to do this. They hated my colour scheme from 2006. But it's going to be a slow progress I see now because there's been a lot of nothing going on.

I hope they get it done before they go back to work. It's a nice looking fireplace.

Who knows when they will be able to go back to work? The COVID numbers have to go way down first. And one being in the travel industry.... don't see that picking up again anytime soon.
