Craft store memories

Several memories come up whenever I think of craft stores.
I remember...
My mom letting me go look at the stickers with my sister and picking out a pack of stickers that I really liked.
I remember
Being bored out of my mind because mom could spend hours in the craft store
I remember
The smell of potpurri.
I remember
Doll heads and pipe cleaners and Alene's Glue in the gold bottle.
I remember
Aisles of yarn. (You guys didn't think I'd forget to mention that, did you?)
Pictured is yarn from Mainstays. Sometimes (and it's not just this brand) you will find that yarn has been tied in to make a full skein of yarn. I Hate when they do this.

Those sound like great memories from craft stores....Well minus the boredom!
And that's awful that they would tie together yarn to make a full skein.

Mom was into so many different crafts that she often spent hours just looking at everything. We were poor so she would decide on what was really necessary and what she just wanted.
Yeah, it's annoying but I just cut the little excess and it doesn't show up very much in my work.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well I can understand that; crafts are fun and you want to get everything you can for them...and it can be harder to do so on a budget.
Well that is good that you can cut the excess off and it doesn't show up too much in your work.

My mom used to sell her crafts and so we were at the craft store quite a lot. I haven't been inside a craft store in several years, I order everything online now.

@thelme55 Oh no! There are several different craft stores here, but I think some of them are struggling.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I remember there even use to be ones I did not want to stick in the book because I wanted to save them and certain ones I would trade with friends. I loved scratch and sniff ones.

I can tolerate it in small quantities. It always burned my nose and had my sinuses acting up at the craft store.

It bring a smile to my face when I have memories like these. It drove me crazy as a child to waste so much time in the craft store but what I wouldn't give to spend five more minutes in a craft store with my mom.

They do that
? How does that work out in the middle of a project though
? Love your craft store memories! I somehow don't remember going to craft stores . . . but I do remember going to fabric stores (or the mass market store, it was Kmart for us back then) and looking at the craft section . . . that was always exciting

@ScribbledAdNauseum There was only Kmart for us (Target wasn't around til later . . . and Walmart even later than that). Then there was the House of Fabrics in our mall . . . I don't even think that exists anymore.

Yup. I've seen it done with mainstays and redheart so far.
Oh yeah we went to Kmart a whole lot when I was a kid too. Walmart, Kmart.... We'd swing by the craft sections there all the time too.

@much2say I think Target was later in high school and after for me now that I think about it. My early childhood was Roses & Burlington Coat Factory too. I've never heard of House of Fabrics.

Yes, I hate it as well. I usually use Lion Brand. I have spent a lot of time in crafts stores as well.

I hate when they tie yarn too. Thanks for the memories. Little did you know that you would have yarn obsession in later years. lol

So true. Little Amber did not even think she would love crocheting as much as her mother once did.
