You are pissed off because people have 800 dollar phones and are dirt poor. This is actually a thing. People have Tv's and phones. One you kind of need a phone a cell phone, or you not going to be employed. I am one of the rare few who do not.
Tv's are pretty cheap, computers jumped big time. but overall the way people look at how society is well off by materialistic things is disturbing. Ok Lie about Trump if you must but please. I do not want to see one more . Homie owns a 800 dollar phone but is checking to see where his food stamps are.
One you made it that way and two.Do the math, does it make sense to you?

I paid $9.95 for a refurbished phone to use with Tracfone at about $30 or less per month for service. For me, it is not the cost of the phone that send up red flags, it is the hundreds a month spent on "service" that is a problem.

And it's not like people are dropping $800+ on their phones at one shot. All the major carriers offer monthly payments on devices. $30ish a month is way more manageable for most people, and it's easy to say "I can afford that!" when the upfront cost would be completely out of their league.
Would it be better to get a less expensive phone anyway? Probably, but that's not the American way.
That's not even scratching the surface on how it's possible that someone who was previously well off could suddenly find themselves in different circumstances. Cell phones aren't countable assets, bro. If they're getting food stamps they've been through the hassle of having their finances scrutinized to see if they qualify. That's not something people do just for funsies.
