What is the point?

My Covid-19 vaccination notification letter arrived in the post this morning, headed "Book your appointments now". It gave full instructions on how to do this, including the line: You can book online at: (giving the URL). I duly entered the URL and found the appropriate page for making the booking. I gave my NHS number and date of birth, only to read the message - "You are not currently eligible to use this service". Hence my question - what is the point of telling people to use a service that they are then told they are ineligible to use? Is there a problem here with left and right hands not having a clue what each other is doing?

They send them out so you can find out where you are in the process of getting your COVID shot. There is other that need it before the rest of us. Lots of people have been told by work but you might hav medical reasons for why you should get it sooner so those people might not have a work where they can get it now. I get them often either text or email and I know it’s not my turns so I ignore them.

It's not that. The letter had gone out to all those in the 65-69 years age bracket, now that the 70+ group have largely been covered. The website has not yet been updated to take account of this. Since writing this post I have been told that the assumption was that the letters would not reach people until Monday - when the website will update - but somebody was more efficient than had been assumed (!) and so my letter (and those of other people I know) turned up on Friday.

Maybe there are other rules or retrictions not read ? Fine lines are hidden somewhere

That part may well be annoying but it's good to know that they know you exist and that you are on the waiting list.

I got a nice phone call from a doctor who asked if I'd like the jab. I like the personal touch.

The letter says that one should expect a call from one's local medical practice, and we can wait for that if we want to. However, given that they only sent out the reminder letters for the winter flu jab - and not the originals! - I am not confident that I will hear from them any time soon.

@indexer Boris is keen for us all to have it so I'm sure you'll get a call when your age group is due to have it.

I just had a similar thing - although totally unrelated - but I took some food out of the freezer for dinner. On the bottom of the pack it has instructions of how to cook it from chilled, and how to cook it from frozen. On the side it says 'always defrost thoroughly before cooking'.

These automated systems are so darned annoying at times. It is really frustrating and often there seems no way to get to talk to a person.
