This story is one of my favorite subjects to deal with since Michael Folgino who is the police chief in Elmwood Park is setting an example for his fellow police officers when he risked his life to rescue a two year old girl and her 37 year old mother who fell into the freezing Passaic River on Thursday afternoon when they fell off of their kayak that they were riding.. Michael used a shovel to push his way 75 yards to the area where the child and here mom were close to going under the icy river when he told them to calm down since they were scared of dying by drowning. Michael was able to get both the mom and her child by grabbing them and getting them inside the boat so it would fall down again. Michael warmed the couple with a jacket to keep them warm until two firefighters used an ice sled and ropes to pull the kayak back to shore with a boat that he borrowed from an owner who showed compassion to the police chief to do his work to rescue the couple. The mom and her daughter were taken by an ambulance to a hospital in Paterson New Jersey where I am sure that they will recover even though their conditions are not known at this time. Thanks to a concerned citizen who witnessed the kayak that the couple rode on who called 911, the couple were saved from a tragic end to their lives in a park. Michael was shaken up from doing his duty to save the couple but I am sure that is worth it to make a difference in their lives by being their guardian angel.

I agree with you since Michael did respond to an emergency call from an eyewitness.

I hope both will be alright. At least they're alive.

I hope so too since the two year old child was very cold when he was taken to the local hospital at arrival.

They were all lucky to come out alive after being in such cold conditions.

You are right since cold weather can put someone to sleep fast.

They really do their best to spread God's message of care for His children.
