Stuck with our old dryer

When we bought a new gas dryer (from Home Depot) we paid $25 to haul away the old one. The delivery people came Wednesday to deliver the new dryer and told us they couldn't take away the old one because it was still connected. Since this was a gas dryer and involved more than just unplugging it from the outlet we weren't gonna do it ourselves. The delivery people told us that after the installation people come and unhook the old dryer we should call the store and schedule a haul away. I tried calling the store Thursday and Friday and could not get a hold of anyone in the appliance department or anyone else who can help. Finally, I was able to get a hold of someone today. I told them I wanted to schedule a haul away and explained our situation. After being placed on hold I was told that our old dryer cannot be taken away. It should've been disconnected when the delivery guys came and removed from our home then. We can get our $25 back but we have to go to the store for that. And as for our old dryer. We have to figure out a way to get rid of it on our own. If we do it will probably cost us way more than $25.

I spoke to Home Depot via chat on their website. Told them what happened. The person said they do not come back for appliances. They have to be disconnected before delivery people get to the house. I can get the $25 back that we paid for the haul away but that's it. We have to figure out a way to remove it ourselves. But I don't get it. When we bought the dryer the appliance person at the store that did our order didn't tell us that delivery is one day, then we are called to schedule installation, and that appliances must be disconnected upon delivery and that that's the only time they take it away. I thought maybe installation people would take the old dryer but in the end they didn't. Maybe they are not allowed to do that. I don't understand Home Depot's stupid policy though. Everything should be done same day. And the customer should not be required to disconnect a gas dryer themselves. It should be done by a professional. Customers are not professionals. It's dangerous to do it yourself unless you know what the heck you are doing. When we bough the washer (in 2018) from them this was not the case. It was same day delivery, disconnection of old washer, installation of new washer, and haul away of old washer. No issues. And it was even free installation.

@lovebuglena I would explain all of this to a supervisor; and if you don't get it resolved, I would take it a step further and contact the home office.

@LindaOHio We went to Home Depot yesterday and got the haul away refund. Their policy is such that the appliance has to be disconnected upon delivery of new one. If it is not, they do not take it away or come back for it at a later day. Since I could not disconnect the gas dryer myself as I am not a licensed technician and don't even have the tools for it, I had to hire one. That defeats the purpose of paying them $310 for installation. Whoever I would've hired to disconnect old dryer I would have used to connect the new one and probably for much less money.
