A Surprise Critter Visitor on the Deck

Put on my boots to carefully go out and feed the birds earlier. We had ice all day yesterday and some snow today. Making the deck and other surfaces very slippery. I came back in and started snapping photos from behind the patio door. A small downy woodpecker was out there for a long time eating peanuts I scattered on the deck. There is a chair they like to get under and eat the peanuts. I was snapping photos when all of a sudden I saw this critter. A rabbit! So surprised as he also took a peanut and hopped off the deck with it. They have to eat too. I know peanuts are not good for rabbits. They are very high in fat content. But these critters have to eat whatever they can find during the winter. Photo is mine with the ice, snow and icicles.

@CarolDM But it's interesting how unexpectedly a good photo turned out, since you didn't wait for the rabbit to take photos

Cute. Is it a wild rabbit? Our wild rabbits turn white in the winter.

@CarolDM interesting do you have snow all winter? I thought wild rabbits all turned white for the winter in snowy areas.

I throw celery tops, lettuce, various vegetables beneath the porch. This gives our wild bunnies some food:)

I would never have guessed that to be a rabbit. We have plenty around here in the summer but I guess I've never seen their noses puked into the ground. I was guessing raccoon or even possum. Was I ever off base.

@CarolDM I saw it when the page loaded. I was trying to figure out where the ears were while looking at its eyes. It's an obvious rabbit now that I see him correctly.

A big brown wild rabbit! I was close to the patio door with the camera, waiting for a bird. I was surprised. I am sure there are raccoons and possums at night.

I didn't know rabbits ate peanuts. But as you say when it's that cold they need whatever they can find.

That is a cute little bunny, we used to have a few in our yard when we lived out in the country. This time of the year we used to see them fairly often. I used to take some green beans and put them outside for them to eat.

That is such an adorable rabbit, The squirrel that comes to eat bread is getting greedy, He usually has to share with birds and today when all of the bread for the day was gone that squirrel still came running along on the cable to check things out,
