MyLotters in Texas?

Do we have any MyLot members currently in Texas dealing with the weather / power / craziness down there? I have been following the news that past couple of days- has it been a week? In between paying attention for my own state's weather news (nothing super exciting except sub-zero temps). My heart breaks for the lives that were lost and continue to be lost in this winter storm and all of the backlash. I haven't heard much about states surrounding Texas, but I am sure those states are seeing issues too. I heard some parts of Texas are experiencing "pandemic-style" shortages - like of food - restaurants being closed down - "running out of gas" or somehow not able to GET gas - not sure if this is exacerbated or truth. If you are in the area, where are you at and how are things going? I am thinking about you and let us know if there's anything we can do to help. For those unaware of the situation, here's one article (or just Google anything)
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continued to slam the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) on Thursday for what he says are failures to prepare the state for the winter storm that has left thousands freezing in the dark without running water.

My niece lives in Texas but she is not a My Lotter. She is safe and sound.

Glad to hear it. Scary. Are you getting any of that extreme weather in Louisiana? If my geography is correct, you aren't terribly far from there (but I am a midwesterner and not really familiar with that area down sotuh, so forgive me if this is not accurate).

@maezee The Lake Charles area had some sleet in the area which closed the city for the entire week through Thursday. Thank goodness no blackouts but freezing rain stopped the water from flowing for the entire week.

I am lucky to be in the far southwest corner of Texas, we only got 3 days of icy cold and it only snowed on the first day, we are back into the normal weather now.

I'm in Oklahoma, next door to Texas, and we have food shortages along with tons of snow. But although it got to six degrees below zero, we didn't get the ice Texas got. We do, however, have to boil our water in most parts of the state. I know a lot of people in Texas, and they are just trying to get by.

I can't say for sure. I know that there's a lot of people struggling down there. And, of course, instead of resolving issues to get heat, food etc to people CNN decides to post that. Honestly, makes me sick to think that instead of helping its people they're looking to place blame.

I just picked the first article I came across, but I know what you're saying. At the same time...It stinks that no government ever seems to be proactive about preparing for emergencies. It always feels reactive, you know? And maybe that's for reasons that are far above my understanding. But still. Are you doing OK down there in FL?

@maezee We're doing okay down here. So far the ice and snow have left us alone. I understand where you're coming from. Some years back, we had ice on our roads (something that's rare) and we don't have salt trucks, either. As risky as it was, we improvised and used sand. Why Texas isn't improvising and pointing fingers is what I fail to understand. I do understand you can't prepare for every disaster, and they have plans in place for the most common ones... but come on... this is a time to improvise.

I'm in the extreme southwest corner of TX and we only got 3 days of really icy cold weather which is now gone. But from what I understand @nanette64 might be in an area dealing with some horrific circumstances right now.

It is happening everywhere more often! No matter what State you live in you will be 'hit' but unusual storms, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, etc. Everyone has to be prepared--at least food wise for a week--in South Florida we are always ready in hurricane season--well, most of us!

Biden got going on federal help with making it a disaster area too. God help all shuttering from snow storm disaster.
