We use nutmegs to add flavour to biryany, pullao, pudding and even cakes. Nutmegs need two trees grown alongside for producing nutmegs. I really do not know why it is so. Even avocado has a similar story. The mace (that which covers the nutmeg) is expensive and we sell both nutmegs and mace. Mace is also similarly used as flavouring. The nutmeg tree is the favourite of birds that visit us You can listen to their cacophony here
Too much is too bad And the birds think they are making us happy. Not this way (lol) Rare indeed.

It's a musical cacophony there. I would love to be entertained by that concert every morning.. Nutmegs are pretty costly. Good that you have them in your garden. It's first time I am seeing fresh nutmegs. I have always bought the dried ones and the powder. Is it tall tree or short and bushy ones??

You have that video now. Play away as many times as you wish (lol) It is a medium sized tree and yes packed with leaves. A friend of mine in Kerala told me they make jam out of the fruit skin.

@allknowing I will do that. Nutmeg jam...that sounds interesting. I am not sure how the fresh fruit tastes but what we get has a bit bitter taste...a little is okay for flavour. Does the skin taste sweet??

Many trees need 2 to pollinate. They are called male and female because of that

Thanks for the photo. I find that interesting to see nutmeg and mace in its raw form.
