Last month in January we made our last mortgage payment on our property. We paid it off 10 years early. We own 24 acres of timber and farm land in Spokane County Washington. We reside rural in the mountains and we love it at least most the year. We do get snow. This year was not as much as normal but we do have snow about 2-3 inches melting and it likely will be gone in about 2 weeks unless we get more which is possible for another week or two. Most the year it is really nice. We see deer, grouse, wild turkey, moose, sometimes a bear and also cougar where we live. We get a few raccoons and an occasional skunk passed through A myriad of songbirds and we have a lot of hummingbirds which we put of feeders for every spring through September. I often hang my clothes outside on the line and love the sound of the creek across the road from our house and the breeze we get most every afternoon. Our neighbors are quiet and we know them but we are not intrusive nor they however they are friendly and helpful at times and visa versa. We just got some new neighbors we hope to go meet in a few days. As our neighbor of 4 and half years sold his place next door to us to them. We will miss Ivan a lot but looking forward to meeting the new folk. It is a good feeling to no longer have a mortgage we also do not have a car loan or other loans of any sort. We basically have monthly costs of utilities. such as electric, phone, auto insurance, groceries, we do not have a water or sewer bill as we have septic and a well. We have one credit card which we pay off monthly if we use it. Which we do a few times a year. Other than that we have home insurance and taxes and some medical bills at times. It is a good feeling to have over $1000 a month in our pocket for other things we can save for now. We are building a fund for a trip another for a better car and some for our children later. We also have a gift or annual event fund we put money into. We did have a personal loan for 5 months last year which we paid off as well. It is a good feeling. I am also putting money aside to buy a male Scottish Terrier to go with our two females and that is another story I will post

Congrats to you!! I remember the grand feeling of having a mortgage paid off. Then my daughter was in dire straits so we had the place refinanced and gave her the money she needed. We'll have that re-finance paid by this Fall.

That is awesome you paid it off and were able to re-finance and help your daughter out and fall is not that far away being out of debt other than monthly expenses is a great feeling. Few ever accomplish. This is the 3rd place we have owned and paid off in full in our life time.

@Liberti Thanks. We're house monsters over here. We helped my daughter get into that house. We're selling a house on a rent to own deal and we are buying another one, West side, besides where we live right now. I hate leaving our three wild and wooly acres but retirement is getting close and we just need more to do than care for land so we'll probably sell and move.
