I Thought of MacArthur Park

I will never understand how our minds work sometimes. I was sitting here watching the birds, in the rain, on the deck. I saw them drop a peanut on the deck, they picked it up, rain dripping from the shell and kept eating. Never phased by the rain.
It reminded me of an old song called MacArthur Park. Many artists covered this song, but Donna Summer's disco version stands out. Why? I have no idea. The song talks about leaving a cake out in the rain. Have not thought of this song in many years.
And this is not my style of music. Maybe it is because I heard my sister listen to it over and over. And the rain today took me back. Funny how I remember all of the lyrics. But I forgot what I had for dinner. I know all about short term and long term memory but this feels crazy.
I know this happens to everyone, at some point, right?

Did you ever meet her, or see her in real life

I love Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman" - which is another song that he wrote. I cry every time I head it. But, I do not cry (or smile, for that matter) when I head "MacArthur Park." This song make me cringe, no matter who is singing it. But, I have done research to find out what the cake in the rain was all about. Have you ever seen this?

@Chellezhere And Wichita Lineman has a melancholy feel to it. I like it as well.

Great song. But surely the greatest version ever has to be by Richard Harris. Almost Shatner-esque in it's ridiculousness.

I like the song but not her versions, it doesn’t sound haunting the way she does it.

I love this song. I left my cake out in the rain and I couldn't bake it again.

@CarolDM My husband started singing, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas"; and I can't get that song out of my head!

I like Richard Harris's version from 1968 best. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
But I do like Donna's song "Last Dance" and I'm not much of a disco fan, lol.
