Competing to Oneself is Healthy

While I am still working in my previous jobs offline, I never compete with my former colleagues. In short, I just compete with myself because it is a healthy thing to do. Unfortunately, most of my colleagues were too busy comparing themselves to me. I also make it clear that they cannot ask about my salary monthly. For me, it is a rude thing to be asked. Thus, the only person that I need to compete with is myself.
Do you compete with yourself?
Is it good to compare oneself to other people?

You are doing the best way and sometimes we can look at some other persons too for added Inspiration

Sometimes, it is good to know what others in the same type of job are making as compared to you. Finding out you are being paid less for the same job is incentive to ask for a raise. Finding out you make more can make you happier with yourself as you are more valued than they are.
If you were happy with what you made, then you are fine.

@DaddyEvil I agree. The person can only ask for his or her information.

@Shavkat Here, HR isn't allowed, by law, to divulge that information.
