...And I don’t answer my phone because of all those “car’s extended warranty” calls, so I thought I’d better come see what they wanted.
The drive down was lovely, of course. The severity of the February ice storm north of Knoxville was quite evident on the interstate: trees toppled by the dozen. I’ve seriously seen fewer trees down after a tornado! (Which would stand to reason: a tornado is a hit-and-miss storm, but the ice accumulated everywhere.)
I have no idea what the Smokies wanted, and maybe they just want to check on my car’s extended warranty, too. But I’ll spend a couple of days finding out. Maybe more.
Meanwhile, the photo above is from a previous trip, when I came across Bobby the Bear (Bobby Bare, get it? Didn’t think so.

They’re up to about 6,643 feet at Clingman’s Dome.

Yes, they did. Their issues were complicated by the fact that they aren’t used to that kind of weather. It’s not that rare in this part of the world to have an ice storm (we had one in Louisville in February 2009, right on the heels of Hurricane Ike in September 2008...between the two I think everyone in the city lost power at one time or the other!), but it just doesn’t snow in Galveston! I was there a couple of weeks before that hit, and while it was snowing at home it was comfortable and sunny in Galveston!
I remember when it snowed in Daytona Beach in 1978. My best friend from junior high school was a Daytona Beach native and she had never seen snow until then!

@FourWalls Yeah. I can relate. It's fliried at least once or twice since, but it's rare to have ice and snow storms. Period. This winter is one for the record books I'll say.

He is awesome and smokies, thought you were talking about cops screw those guys but that guy could be a smokey. I have never ran into a bear but me loves them. Dogs with a temper. How I describe bears. Misunderstood for sure.

Bare loves Shel. First album I bought that my dad objected to wasLullabys, Legends, and Lies, all Shel songs (including what my dad considered some too naughty for a 14-year-old). And later, of course, Bobby did “Quaaludes Again.”
