Good morning from this side of the planet. It's 9 AM here and I am waiting for the flower lady to deliver some flowers and belpatra( leaves of bhel plant). It's the festival of Mahashivratri and we have holiday today. My garden has few flowers but today being a special occasion and a special pooja( service to God), I need some extra flowers. Belpatra is offered to Lord Shiva. I guess she has enough orders at hand for the day and so she might be little delayed.
Mahashivratri is an auspicious day which is celebrated as wedding anniversary of Lord Shiva and Parvati. People observe fast and elaborate pooja and rituals are performed worshipping Lord Shiva and Parvati. There is also a custom in many places to stay awake whole night and sit in upright position. There is a belief that the planetary positions today give you extra positive energy to pass through your brain and spinal cord if you sit in straight posture. Many saints choose this night for their night long meditation for spiritual enlightenment. When we were young, children from neighbours used to throw stones in each other's house in the night to make sure that all stay awake. It was a fun game for young children and made them stay awake throughout the night
I too stay up whole night on this day. I keep enough to keep me busy for whole night. I do some meditation, chanting for the whole night and do take few breaks in between where I finish some work sitting in upright position. I enjoy this night as my me time night as everyone else in my family will go to sleep sometimes around 1 AM.
.
I have enough planned to spend the time tonight.
I feel immense peace chanting in the quietness of the night
We are all ready. I even made breakfast for my daughters. I will be on fruits today. The house is clean. And my younger one has made this rangoli design for this special occasion that you can see in picture.
As soon as the lady arrives, we can start with pooja rituals.
And mylotting is also a part of my to do list tonight. So, you will find me quite active here tonight
Take care. Have a good time in your corner

I could stay awake the whole night without getting bored and could get a lot done.
My daughters have artistic inclinations and they enjoy doing such stuff. Glad that you liked it.

@arunima25 You're welcome and thank you. I'm never quite sure if I have the greetings correct for someone in a different country so have to ask to be sure.

That's one thing I love about this celebration. The stillness and quietness of night is so beautiful to meditate and to do things that we love to do in peace.

You observed the MahaShivratri festival on Wednesday? We celebrated this on Thursday 11th.
We also have a fast although Kuttu(Buckwheat Flour) fried dumplings(pakode) in the evening sort of make us laugh on our Fasting strategy that day !!
The Peacock rangoli looks so so awesome!! Great work.
We had Banana cake recently and would share a post on that soon.
The interesting part was that we made it in Double Boiler Pan arrangement and not in the Oven.

We too celebrated it on Thursday. Yes, many people go for feasting instead of fasting. And I being a diabetic can't do either
. So I don't have the luxury of such kind of fasting strategy.
Do you also stay awake the whole night?
What a coincidence! My younger daughter baked a banana bread yesterday on Sunday. I think I have the picture too. I will wait for your cake post. See if I too can make the post on our banana bread.
How was your weekend??

Yes, it's a peacock. She just wanted to make peacock. Peacock is considered royal and symbol of prosperity here. Nothing related to this particular celebration. But a good auspicious symbol to have on entrance to attract fortune and luck.
You have an elephant memory.
You can remember my post from last year.

Now. it would not happen in the present time. Maybe it still would prevail in small rural places where the community stays together as a family. In big cities, people get more self-centred and confined.
