Big Chunk of Change...

This new bill that has passed, will now give parents the same $1,400 amount for each dependent they have... Some families will more than likely get five figures in stimulus money. Many of them have no idea how to handle this kind of cash, and could very well spend it on frivolous things. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself, as long as all the bills are paid. Kind of like winning the lottery, or getting a large inheritance. Some folks go through it like it was a running water faucet going at full blast! I pray that they are able to keep some aside to take care of necessities.

The fact people can't is why the government is dulling out a third payment. Instead of getting businesses up and running, the powers that be just throw money at the people. Claiming to help them. I also heard, the bill will give the unemployed 300/week until September. Yeah, people will be living large. When/if it comes, my husband and I will discuss how to spend it and where it should go.

@teresatrotter And, that's the end game. The govornment doesn't seem to be in any hurry to encourage people to work. They want people to stay home. The best way to do it, pay them to do so. At the end of the day, everyone loses. Our govornment wins, because people don't work, but businesses that need it, suffer. Because instead of going to pay rent, it goes to the companies that don't really need the help as much. Small businesses are shutting their doors right and left. Trump tried to keep the country going, by not imposing lockdowns. When he did, people complained. In his last year, he managed to get two relief bills out. And, yet... credit goes to sleepy joe for whatever package managees to go to the people. Encourage people to work, don't create more job loss.

@kaylachan Sleep Joe is incompetent, and it makes me mad he is trying to take credit for what Trump did... Plus... He undid all the good Trump did.

It once was discussed as an extra $400 a week, but I guess they decided to keep it the same. The fact that some abuse the money, keeps others who really need it from getting it. Unfortunately for some... This will give them more reason to not go out and look for a job.

I agree. I didn't realize it was per child, I thought there was a number cut off though. I know at least one person that will get 5 figures if that's the case but this person knows how to handle their money (bills are paid, usually more than minimum on cards, etc).. but I hope they save some of it for their children's future or use it for birthdays/holidays, etc

They went back and forth with it... It is my understanding some will also be able to take a tax credit on each child for up to $3,600. So some folks refunds will be very large as well. Families definitely need it. Especially those out of work.

I'll be getting the 1400 K. As usual, I'll keep 100 dollars in checking and send the rest over to savings.

You don't need it that much either. The one I saved $800. The second I only saved $200, because I had other expenses. So I still have $1,000 in savings from the last two checks. Not sure how much will be in savings this time, because I have some personal obligations I want to take care of with this check.

@teresatrotter Nope. But it's good to have money for reserve for emergencies somewhere down the road.

We have seen what happens with most of this stimulus when it's been offered in the past. It's simply spent on anything and everything, and almost none of it goes to what it is intended to go to. The people who actually need the money need the money for a good reason... They do not know how to prepare themselves for financial hardships and are terrible at managing money. You can give any amount of money to a person like this and it won't help them one bit. You brought up the lottery and it's a great example. Most people who win millions in the lottery wind up broke again in around 5 years, and again its because the amount of money was never the issue. The habit of spending is the issue. The lack of planning ahead is the issue. Unfortunately this stimulus is a waste of money and a waste of time.
