Subtitle: That time a television caused the entire population of a Welsh village to lose internet connectivity every morning at 7 AM. Well, that about sums it up to be honest... But I'll post a link below if ya want to read a little more about it. Was costly for them to figure out. Had to outsource to get answers which included updating wiring for the village.

Strange what happened, but not altogether unbelievable. Takes a lot of energy to turn on old electronics and you can feel the electricity as they come on if you're standing close enough.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's true. My parents have a TV they have had 40 years. It still works but doesn't have that great of a screen.

Wow, sounds like something off of Zoey 101. IIt reminds me of that episode where Logan's cell phone set off the fire alarm every night. Glad they resolved it, at least.

I know of the show, but never watched it. I bet a lot of television shows get their ideas from things just like this.

I can't imagine one village not being able to surf the internet for 18 months.

No, they were able to surf the internet, but it disrupted the service at the beginning of the day.

@LadyDuck Yes, time and effort, but also money for hiring an expert. I'm glad they decided to retire the old tv. It was probably time for them to buy a new one anyway.

Yes, it took them a bit to figure out what it was. They finally deducted the cause to be a high frequency disruption and narrowed it down from there. The poor tv owner must have felt embarrassed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I am sure they were embarrassed, it took a lot to discover the problem.

I missed this article. Kind of strange for the entire village.

It is, especially since it seemed to be a moderate sized place.

I'm sure they did. It had to have disturbed quite a bit of morning routines.

It's not something I realized could happen either, but older tvs did give out a lot of electricity when they were first being turned on.
