Study: It might be unethical to force AI to tell us the truth Apparently, it's OK for AI to LIE!! Evidently, Facebook took the lead on developing an AI system that can … uuhh … Let me quote the Facebook researchers: “Deceit is a complex skill that requires hypothesizing the other agent’s beliefs, and is learnt relatively late in child development.” This quote is from the article. It's sort of a conclusion drawn: “...shockingly, the researchers appear to claim that not only should we develop AI that lies, but it’s actually ethical. And maybe even necessary.” Artificial Intelligence was developed so that we could be lied to and deceived? Well at least that explains why I never really get anywhere when I try to get Facebook Help. https://thenextweb.com/neural/2021/03/10/it-might-be-unethical-to-force-ai-to-tell-us-the-truth/

@changjiangzhibin89 - My late husband never had any social media accounts. In fact he steered clear of all online social communities. He just didn't care for them at all. It just wasn't his way of communicating.

If you haven't visited Facebook you haven't missed much. I only joined because I was trying to work online and other folks told to create a social media account - Facebook and Twitter. It's a convenient to share income-earning links. Yeah. You're right. No matter what. The AI is designed by people who evidently don't have a problem with the expression "LIAR! LIAR! PANTS ON FIRE!" After all ... it's just business. It's always good to see you.

The limitation on AI to only tell the truth, in the end, limits the AI. There are so many lies we all tell (does this look good on me? I am ok. Hey you look great. i am so happy to see you). Those the lies within the structure of communication. In order for AI to succeed we have to have it able to tell those lies.

With respect bro. I think that's a load of crock. AI is "artificial". Not human. We don't create a LYING MONSTER! You won't convince me on this. But I appreciate your point of view.

Thanks for the warning. I have two pages for my poetry books on FB and take part in the poetry groups there but I am not there every day,

It was forcing the AI to lie in 2001 that causes all the nastiness that followed

The idea or concept behind Facebook is a good one, i.e. reconnecting with family and friends. Of course, businesses to it on a different path. Nevertheless, I still say it's pointless to develop a LYING MACHINE! I seriously don't see how that "advanced technology" benefits mankind.

I understand why. The COVID-19 pandemic though has caused me to be more active though because it is my only way of talking with some of my friends.

Truth is realitive. That being said, even AI is only as smart as the technology behind it's design. We should take technology for what it is.

Why would they wanna develop AI to lie? Then can just do it themselves.
