We have the right to live. What we now need is the right to die.

Does the right to die not to follow from the right to live? As we acquire increasing mastery over our bodies and the world around us, should we not allow a human being the right to decide how long he or she wants to live? With increasing longevity and the nuclear family concept, older people are increasingly consigned to old age homes which have serious limitations. Then there are the terminally ill going through a huge amount of pain and suffering. There has been some progress on this front in terms of euthanasia and assisted suicide, albeit in a limited manner. But even for those who do not fall in these two categories, there would come a time when the ennui of life makes its continuance undesirable for the protagonist. After all how long can one wonder at the beauty of life and nature? How much music can one listen to and how many classics can one read and reread? And how many World Cups and Olympics can one watch without an increasing sense of Deja vu. The law of diminishing marginal utility applies to life as well. The UN/WHO needs to work on a declaration and on a protocol to implement the same. This is a fundamental human right that humanity does not have as yet

I think we should all have the choice when it comes down to it, religion aside from it.

@jovy63 I did not finish reading your post upon seeing euthanasia I already got your point. Why thinking of ending life, instead look for something that you will be remembered, be productive if not for yourself then do it for others. There are those praying for longevity because they wanted to be of help to others. No one has the right to take ones' life or take your own life. Life is a gift. We are the one making it miserable or enjoyable. We just need to look around and observe those who makes their life meaningful. See those without arms, limbs, blinds, refugees, with dreadful diseases, etc. .

I totally disagree with you. God gives life and He alone has the right to decide when it should end..
