'If you have no enemy, that means you have no principles.'

It's a contention many would rebut. But that is what I heard in the homily.
Which, of course, I agree with in toto.
People simply want to please other people that they would let go of their principles, even their creed, just to be liked by others.
Not by me. I'd stand by my conviction even if others hate and make enemies of me.
What about you? Would you stand your ground also?

I stand on my beliefs even it means being lampooned by my enemies who think I am the character that Clint Eastwood played in his movie "Gran Torino" because my lampooning of pop culture that is not to my tastes of decency.

I have not watched Gran Torino and I couldn't comment on it yet.
But I believe that anyone who stands by his beliefs has character.

@eileenleyva I was raised by my parents to walk the straight and narrow to be happy instead of looking for love in all the wrong places.

@Deepizzaguy That's figurative language. Am sure though that your parents guided you in the path they knew was best for you.
My parents though allowed us to make our own decisions about which path to take. Made errors along the way, deceived by faulty signs, but we got to where we should be.
Yes, I did wish my parents were more strict.

Yes, I stand firm on my principles and creed. If others don't like this, it's their problem and not mine.

Gosh, that's true. My friends have become my enemies. Oh well, I couldn't give up my convictions for their twisted ones. So be it, I guess.

@eileenleyva A true friend allows you to stand up for your principles and creed, without judgement.

@kobesbuddy That's true again. Friendship is a more than half-way meeting of the minds and hearts. Entails unconditional love. No judgment. Just moral support coming from a genuine bond called friendship.

Everyone has standards and principles. Just because some people come off as push overs, doesn't mean they don't have limits or standards. There's a line for a reason.

That's a rebuttal which an old adage counters with - 'He who believes easily has no respect even to one's self.'

No wonder there are times that i happen to create new enemies too. Just like you whenever there is something that i believe in i will try my best to put up a fight to that belief of mine even if it means having a new enemy in the process

Am happy to know you stand by your principles and beliefs. Much too often here, I see fellow Filipinos who would argue with me on a particular subject, to the extent of demeaning my person, and yet, with others, they would readily submit and pose no objection at all, on the very same subject. Gosh, such creatures I regurgitate.
Glad to see you here.

That is true.
Though the discussion alludes to a different context. It's about people with no conviction.

Yes, it does take a lot of courage to stand against foes but even more to stand against friends and loved ones.

There were times in life, when I had to do what it takes to survive for my child.
But other than those times, I stand by my convictions solely.

Inevitable those occasions that once I scratched a jeepney driver with my long nails because he almost took off with my little toddlers and I have not the chance to board the jeepney. I shouted so loud that it got the attention of the bystanders. The jeepney stopped and I ran to the driver and scratched him like a bear. I was so furious. I retrieved my daughters and went back home. When I checked my nails, there were skin underneath. Washed off my hands and disinfected.

@RebeccasFarm That driver was definitely an idiot!
I discovered another part of my self. I'd go to any length to protect my daughters.

That's the way to way to go about it - stand by the truth one believes in.
If in the process of arguing and reasoning one's convictions are found erroneous, am never ashamed of saying Mea Culpa. I can always stand corrected also.
