Thank You Mr. and Mrs. Frank (They really must have loved children)

So, I had gone to visit my childhood home over Easter. My parents have lived in that house since I was about nine years old. Actually, I celebrated my 9th birthday there. Anyway, we used to play at neighborhood park there which was a kid's paradise. It had everything a kid could want games, mini golf, ice cream, arts and crafts..basketball tennis, tetherball, paddleball playground equipment..you name it they had it there. It was always fully staffed in the summer by teachers that taught in our school district as well. When I went up to the park which will be there forever I believe, I saw a large boulder with inscription dedicated to Leland Frank and his wife who donated the land. I had never known this. Also, There was a large hill in the neighborhood about the only one (as most properties were flat due to the lakeshore) and the kids would congregate to sled there. It was Frank's hill. It was their property, although I am not totally certain I knew it at the time. Most people would not really want a gang of 10 or 20 kids playing there in the snow..but they didn't mind. Mrs. Frank was a teacher at our elementary school, although I did not have her as a teacher. I guess she and her husband truly had a generous spirit and loved children. It goes to show you there are always good people around. Who is generous in your area?

That is really nice. Most people like to help if they are aware there is a problem.

It is isn't it? The news needs to intersperse more good stories in it instead of just one at the end.

Yes, indeed and the news should talk about more of them. Intersperse the good stories with the bad instead of just having one nice story at the end.

That’s such a nice discussion. Our town is old, but very upscale. Many old timers bequeathed land for the town’s use. The woods in my backyard are one of them.

I don't know how close you are to old Lyme but my ex husband's father donated land there for a nature preserve. It was worth about a million dollars.

@DianneN IF you get to the art museum there, there are paintings by my ex's grandfather. He was in that artist colony round about the turn of the century. and afterwards..the American Impressionists.

One of our local schools was named after a Scottish politician I was told (he was long gone, perhaps a hundred years ago). Heard that he was quite wealthy (before becoming a political figure) and donated lots as well as doing many good things to the area.
