Wouldn’t drive a car with a plate number like this.
In this country to get a special plate is not cheap. As far as I could recall we paid 20,000php for ours which is roughly around $400.
The first letter of the plate number tells from which Region and province you are. But with a special plate, you get to choose whatever letter.
The one in the photo though seems to be not a special plate because the first letter is the letter assigned in our region.

I wouldn’t mind paying a lot for a special plate than drive around with that one in the photo. Never!

We can buy old plates during the annual auctions, those who do not drive anymore can sell their plate. The two letters are the Swiss Canton where we live (in our case TI - Ticino), followed by numbers. The plate that has been sold for the higher price until now is VS-1 (Vallais-1) for more than 180,000 dollars.. The plate TI-1 has not yet been sold.

We cannot sell plates here at all. Only the Land Transportation Office can do that.

@LadyDuck When we sell our car, we transfer the registration of the plate as well. It’s automatic and the plate number is specified in the deed. EAch car has a distinct body number. When we register the car to get a plate, they need that body number which can be stenciled from inside of the car. So when that body number is tampered with, it’s a violation of the law. So if we sell our car, that includes the plate number.

@toniganzon The plate is yours and registered in your name, you can keep it during all your life, but you cannot sell the plat, the transfer of property can only be done through the Transport Department. When my husband sold his second car he brought back the plate, we do not need it.

For sure it is a coincidence. And that word doesn’t mean a thing in this country. Except for those who are well versed with the English language.

It's way too expensive

@gamayngbaki I have always known the word to be discriminatory, thus this discussion and the very reason i would never have that plate.

@toniganzon There are several meanings of the word "on the plate number" in the Cambridge Dictionary. According to the Cambridge Dictionary "the word on the plate number" is a "U.S. slang which is an offensive word for a gay man". If this is the case then I would not want to display or use this plate number either because it's discriminatory.

I'm not going to say it, but I can't unseen it now. Maybe the owner loves it.
The first number of the plate is the state you buy the car from here. We can also buy or book certain plate number that come up with a price.
Long ago WTF, WTH and WWW were selling like hot cakes.

That wasn't a special plate either and I don't think he loves it nor does he hate it. The owner has no idea what that means in the first place and he has no choice. It was issued to him like that.

I think my state has switched over to completely random plate numbers fairly recently. It used to be done following the same scheme as the one in your picture, three letters followed by four numbers, and they have filters in place to prevent issuing plates with slurs. I probably would have requested a different plate if I'd been issued that one, even if it was just one generated by the MVD computer.
I can't believe it's so expensive for a vanity plate there. Is that just a one-time fee? In my state it's something like $25 a year to have one of the special plate designs or a vanity plate number. There's something like 65 different plate images that one can choose from here, which is probably excessive.
I don't know if other states offer quite as many options as we have when renewing our plates.

It’s one time payment. You’ll have that special plate for eternity. Mine only has three letters and two numbers.

It only cost me $50 to get my special license plate. Actually, it didn't cost me anything, my former girlfriend bought it for me as a birthday present.
I definitely had a good laugh when I saw the license plate in your photo. I would never allow a plate like that on my vehicle.

I didn't know plates could cost that much. I don't know what a special plate cost here, I've never had one.
