Well, we’re almost finished with this foolishness of songs with “fool” in the title, celebrating April Fools Day. There are songs that I’m sure came to mind when I said I was doing this subject, and this is probably one of them. And waddaya know, here it is, near the top! #2: Poor Little Fool - Ricky Nelson It seems like it’s been “combine your Hall of Famers” on this countdown. Here we have Ricky Nelson doing a song by Eddie Cochran’s fiancée, inspired by a relationship with Don Everly! In fact, I think I just named the first induction class! Sharon Sheeley wrote this song, encouraged by Elvis Presley (another slacker ) to write, after a short romance with Don Everly. Based on this song, that didn’t work out too well. According to Picky Wedia, she felt that Ricky Nelson was perfect for this song, so she went to his house on the pretense that she needed assistance because her car had broken down (ah, the days before smartphones and stalkers); and, while there, gave him this song. Good fake flat tire on everyone’s part! Later Sheeley became engaged to Eddie Cochran, a relationship that was tragically ended in 1960 when the couple and Gene Vincent were involved in an automobile accident in England. Cochran was killed, and both Sheeley and Vincent were seriously injured. After she recovered she returned to the US and wrote with Jackie DeShannon before leaving the music business. And Ricky Nelson? He had a little success on his own, then he went to a Garden party..... Enjoy one of the great classics of the early days of rock and roll. Poor Little Fool Written by Sharon Sheeley Recorded by Ricky Nelson From Ricky Nelson, 1958 The next day she was gone:

I love anything sung by Ricky Nelson. I remember the plane crash on New Year’s Eve.

Nice post Ah, Ricky Ricky with the teeny bopper image and velvety voice! Here's another fool Ricky sang about Ozzie and Harriet when America was as sweet as Apple Pie
This is a clip from The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet. There are several episodes available at HoughsVideos.50Megs.Com
