Studying an online college volcanology course

Where have I been recently? Well, I'm interested in learning more geology, so I'm taking an online college course through edX, on volcanic hazards and hazard mapping. It has been really interestingly timed. I did the first unit, which talks about fissure eruptions, at the same time Iceland's newest fissure eruptions opened up. I was creating a hazard map for an unexpected hypothetical eruption in New Zealand when La Soufriere started erupting in St. Vincent. This has all given a sense of reality rather than just "study" to this course that I wasn't quite expecting! The colleges that have put the course together are the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and the University of Iceland. Have you taken any online or correspondence courses recently? What did you think of them?

That would have been a very strange feeling to have such events happening while you were studying something similar.

I call it the "scratch n sniff" study mode. It happened in 2018, too, when I was at the volcano Sakurajima, smelling suffer, and watching live streams from the Hawaii eruption talking about the volcanic gases.

@petatonicsca That's a good term for it - scratch and sniff.

No. I was done with school after high school. I like doing my own thing rather than what others expect of me.

The nice thing is that nobody expects this of me! And it doesn't matter if I pass or not (except I did pay for it).

Good for you. Haven't taken any online course but I want to.

wow, that's nice. .no, did not take anything..I am more interested in creating opportunities for myself than learning. Though learning does not stop but am okay with my college degree and the practical.things I learn everyday.

A while ago I took an online course certified to fill out my resume. On the future learn platform, you may have heard of it.
