Libraries

I took our family car to a new service center last week since this place charged much less, also because it was recommended to me by my friend's husband. While waiting, I decided to walk to the local library, a place I used to visit frequently a decade ago before our last move. Odd, but I couldn't think of what to do there since I seem to have all the E-copies of my favorite (dead) authors. (Guess I was not really in the mood for any library at the time .) The wifi at that library was not good, I ended up using my mobile data for a while to read the latest news before visiting a plant nursery closeby (to kill time). Are you a frequent user of your local library? What do you often do there? (During my single days, I often went there to borrow books from my favorite authors. Later, as a young mother, I went there to borrow new movies or games for my little ones, or simply just to let the kids play with other children.)

I guess time is a factor that makes our opinions change over time and that's what you once enjoyed really doesn't make you happy as it used to and that's why you couldn't find anything interesting

@YrNemo I do not download e-books, I download the .pdf format of old books that are no more covered by copyright. Many Agatha Christie novels are available in .pdf format. I transfer to my tablet so I can read sitting comfortably downstairs.

I have some E-Books here too. I no longer have time to read new authors's fictions these days.

@LadyDuck scanned copies? How big are they (each)? I borrowed some e-books (scanned) from an online library, and their pdf files each is about 35Mb or so.

I haven’t been to the local library since they stopped using it as a polling location.

Up until the pandemic, I read stories to toddlers. My kids grew up in our local library, but I prefer to order new books online.

wow, so you are a prominent figure in your local libraries. (My kids as preschoolers, used to think of those special readers as Goddesses.)

@YrNemo Little kids are so cute. I was able to make them laugh just by changing my voice or making silly faces. Darn pandemic!

I used to go libraries when I lived in Metairie Louisiana. Now that I live in Lake Charles and the city is recovering from two hurricanes, I do not have the time.

If the internet connection is good, guess we don't really need libraries a lot like before.

I used to go pretty often because of the pandemic they are only open by appointment. If they can open bars..they can open libraries!! This is getting really old!

Well we do not have the concept of libraries any more. There were a few in some areas but now people are going less there. Most use Internet for their knowledge queries.

I haven't been to a library for a very long time. These days I would either buy or just read online novels on Wattpad.

Same here. I check our local libraries's catalogs every now and then, but can't find anything that really really interests me.

I first used my local libraries some decades ago when I realized that ordering a book or a VHS/DVD, cost MORE time (plus money) than just go to our local libraries. They seemed to have everything (re: new books and movies). Incredbile!
