As I mentioned yesterday, I’m dragging these last four songs out so I can start the Motown countdown on May 1. Aren’t you lucky.
So, instead of “old” and “age” today, I’m just getting “old.”
Here’s a familiar name on my countdowns......
#2: Into the Old Man’s Shoes - Elton John
Hey, wasn’t he just on the “age” countdown? Of course he was! You know how I feel about Sir Elton.
Here’s one that most Elton John fans, even the “big fans,” won’t know. Originally written for the Tumbleweed Connection album, this version (without a second verse that shows up on the demo recording released on the deluxe version of TC) ended up as the B-side of Elton’s breakthrough hit “Your Song” in the UK. (In the US the B-side was “Take Me to the Pilot”....not that I had the 45 or anything
)
Aside from the “deluxe editions” the song was featured on 1992’s Rare Masters, which was all of Elton’s B-sides and early recordings (like “Rock and Roll Madonna”). That’s where I found it.
And it’s one of my favorite EJ songs.
Into the Old Man’s Shoes
Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin
Recorded by Elton John
Released as a single, 1971
Also from Rare Masters, 1992

There's a lot of Elton John music that I've never heard.
