This is my first tattoo competition.
A former officemate opened his own tattoo shop and to get more clients he decided to join a tattoo competition. He had one of his most tenured tattoo artist join. He was looking for a tattoo model and opened an ad about it on his FB. I had asked out of curiosity and was surprised to be asked to be the tattoo model.
I had always wanted to get an oni or a hannya mask tattoo but seeing this samurai mask tattoo, I knew I wanted to get it. So on an early Saturday morning I went to to the tattoo competition venue and prepared myself for a long tattoo session.
I had chosen the thigh as the tattoo placement because it is a meaty part of the body and will likely hurt less. The arms is another option but I'm reserving both my arms for a different tattoo design. Anyway, the tattoo competition started ay 9:00AM and judging was set for 7:00PM. We had started on the dot and made good progress. The tattoo artist wanted to have multiple breaks to rest but I actually encouraged him to keep continuing with the tattoo. I do not want to be rushing in the latter part of the day. My encouragement worked and by 2:00PM we were done. That gave me time to go around and look at the other designs and tattoo artist.
By the time the winners were announced we managed to finish 5th among 30 other contestants. Not bad for my first foray in tattoo competition. Truth be told, if not for the pandemic, I would have joined more tattoo competitions as a tattoo model. I didn't know that I wanted to be one until after this first stint.
Any one has aspirations that you realized later on with your life?

Is it? Well, it is a Samurai Mask tattoo so it should be scary enough to intimidate one's enemies.

How did he learn to make tattoos? How is his shop doing now?
I guess you're used to the pain if you were able to sit from 9 to 2 and still stroll around the mall to wait for the judging at 7.

My friend was self-taught. His artist thought, the one that did my tattoo studied and was an apprentice for another tattoo artist in a different tattoo shop.
