Do you immediately drink cold medicine if you have or there is developing?

I was very uncomfortable while doing my work this afternoon. I sneeze a lot and later on my nose became runny. Too bad the antihistamine and cold medicine I have with me always had been used up already. I checked the medicine cabinet at the office but the cold medicine being stored is not suitable for me. I just drink plenty of water. I also felt fatigue. I'm afraid I'll be catching cough also as they usually go together. I hope this is not Covid. However, I felt better now after taking my dinner and taking the cold medicine brand that was prescribed by my doctor.

I don't take cold medicine immediately. I take some herbal bases losenges and I drink water infused with oregano. I also take hot calamansi with honey. I gargle with a mixture of peppermint and thieves. If nothing improves I see a doctor so I can be prescribed with proper medicines. Most often when I have sore throat it's mostly on upper respiratory .

Home remedies would do wonders sometimes. Yes, if symptoms persist we really need to see our doctor.

@ZedSmart I used to listen to a Chinese Herbalist. She said one should take cold medication depending on how one feels and the color of your phlegm. If its color white it's because you have a cold body and must take something hot like ginger and must avoid cold water. If the color is green it means you have a warm system and must take lots of fluid and avoid ginger, you can have citrus fruits. If the color is yellow then it's due to virus and infections.

I guess it is better to stay isolated even those are just one of the symptoms of covid. You should also stop going to work if you have those symptoms because you never know. If the symptoms like fever and coughing and difficulty breathing happen then you should have yourself swabbed to be sure. Rest for now since getting sick is really hard to come by in terms of getting medical assistance since most are focused on Covid.

@ZedSmart I guess you are like my father who had coughs recently. He panicked and asked for advice if he should go and get swabbed. I told him to observe his symptoms if they are getting worse or not. I said to him he might just be exposed just by dropping by swabbing centers. Good thing he has recovered from his cough already.

@rsa101 It's better to observe the symptoms first because by going to swab centers, we only expose ourselves.

For cough I usually take cough syrups mixed with warm water 2-3 times in a day otherwise my cough gets worse. For cold I don't take any medicine just apply vicks vapourub on my chest at night that helps

A pharmacist friend told me that a not cured cold was lasting 7 days while a well cured cold was lasting only 1 week. I take aspirin or ibuprofen if I have some fever, nothing else for a cold.

I use a zinc product called "Zicam," which is supposed to reduce the severity of a cold, anytime I feel the slightest sniffle coming on. I rarely use the "over-the-counter" cold medications because I have prescription medications for my allergies and asthma that will usually suffice. Hope you're feeling better soon, and I, too, hope it's not covid!
