Fantastic Flight - I Love Flying (and other stories of my antics)

Well hello to you. I do hope that you're all well. After not being able to do much for a while, we seem to have suddenly been caught in a glut of doing stuff all at once.
Last Tuesday, my best friend came round with an early birthday treat for my husband - a homemade lemon cake. D (that's my husband) had tasted my friend's cake before when she was experimenting. He really enjoyed it so she made him one for his birthday. It's currently in the fridge (well, most of it. He couldn't resist taking a piece
)
On Friday, D and I went out for a meal. That was with his parents, sister, and brother-in-law. Also part of his birthday celebrations.
Today, it wasn't part of his birthday celebrations. It just happened to co-incide. It was, in fact, something that had been postponed from my birthday last year. My family had got together to get me a helicopter flight. D came with me for that. We hired a car for a couple of days so we could drive to Nottingham Heliport. The gift was for a 6 mile buzz flight but we paid a little extra to upgrade to 12 miles. I took a few photos, and we had a couple of professional ones taken (which D purchased).
There was the option to upgrade to sit in the front, but we had decided against that. However, as we were 2 of 6 passengers, and nobody had opted for the front seat, someone had to go in it. That lucky someone was me
We were also lucky with the weather, just a bit cloudy. It's rather stormy now.
It was a truly fantastic experience, and one I'd gladly do again. I'd even happily take all the upgrades or have an even longer flight if I could. It was through a company called Adventure 001. I thought the guy doing the safety briefing looked familiar as he looked similar to the dude I was strapped to for a skydive a few years ago. I'm pretty sure he had the same name (it was a common name so quite possibly a different person). The flight included a glass of bubbly. There was chocolate as well and I said I'd need a word with my family about getting us bubbly when it could have been chocolate
- the lady let us have some chocolate anyway because a couple before us didn't want theirs
After that, we went for a little drive into Melton Mowbray (famed for its pork pies and Stilton cheese). We were after something to eat but we ended up in a pub that didn't serve food. It was a lovely pub, though, and we had a quick drink in there. We decided to have something to eat nearer home as we needed some shopping anyway. As there was a shop we wanted en route home, which also happens to be right by a pub, you can probably guess what we did. It was a lovely meal. D had burger and chips, I had a roast beef dinner (it was very herby, and some of the vegetables had been caramelised to death to the point I wasn't certain was the vegetable used to be - but it was nice all the same). We then went to do some shopping, only to find that the shop was closed! We came home and had a cuppa. D went straight to bed while I uploaded some photos.
We'd left the teenager (I usually refer to him as Mini) at home, which was fine with him. He was working on a video about 'dad jokes with a hint of memes' or some such thing.
Tomorrow, I've got the day off work. As I still have the hire car, I'll get the shopping done. I might drive Mini to school (he's only got a few more days then he'll have a month before he goes to an induction for 6th Form). I've also got to post a birthday card. I'd usually just put a stamp on and pop it in a post box, but this was has to go to Canada from the UK so I need to go to a Post Office.
Then on Tuesday, I'll be working (still from home) and it'll be D's 50th birthday. We're then out with friends (D's best friend and his wife) for a meal on Friday. I then have the week after that off work. On the Monday morning, I'm having a spa day with my best friend (which is her belated birthday treat from me) then we have some family coming to visit for the week. We've got our eldest daughter with her husband and their three children, and they're bringing a cousin with her partner and their little one. I think eldest son is coming home then as well. No, they're not all staying with us
We'd absolutely love to have them here if we could. We'll have our son as he'll share with the youngest, but we only have two bedrooms so a bit of a squeeze if we try and fit 12 people in! We have made a few plans with everyone, though. Oh and it's my big sister's birthday at the end of that week.
After that, I'll be back to work for a rest
before Midi's 16th birthday, and then trying to sort out seeing the youngest daughter (not practical for her to come up with the others so we're going to see if she can come up over the summer holiday). Around that time, hopefully, our eldest son will be graduating from university (I say 'hopefully' because, although he's done what he can, he still doesn't know what's being decided regarding the bits they couldn't do).
Then we have a holiday booked in August. We're going to Cornwall. I'll need to book anything we plan to do as well. I'll start looking forward to that once we've got everything else out the way! At least most things are a little more spread out after the girls have been.
Well, that's me. What have you been up to?

Birthday adventures
- that must've been super exciting
! And the celebrations aren't even over yet - enjoy all your plans. We're trying to get through the end of this school year - almost done - last stretch. No summer plans - just taking things day by day

It was exciting!
We're almost done with school as well. We found out yesterday that Mini's last day will be on Wednesday. He's happy as it means he won't be at school for his birthday!

@much2say it's only because he's in his last school year so he's done all the work he needed to do. There'll still be some work for him to get on with ready for 6th form

@pumpkinjam Wednesday - my kids would say he is lucky
. . . we don't get out for another 3 weeks. Not having to be at school is a great birthday present

Wow! First of all, it's nice to see you here. We don't get to see you that often. Birthday greetings to everyone! A little early for all, but heartfelt wishes nonetheless! You have been very busy! Your helicopter ride sounds like it was a great adventure. Enjoy your life and try and pop by a little more often!

Today I visited my friend's home because he wasn't feeling well. I saw him and he's doing fine now.

I'm glad your friend is doing well now. You're a good friend to visit him while he was unwell.
