What Keeps Me Alive Every Moment?

Choices

I have always wondered and been excited, at the myriad of choices we are presented with all the time. I had made some major moves that decided the direction that my life took. And I knew they were life changing and without recourse. They include my career, life partner, priorities in order of preference. They are all important but at times I do wonder where I would have been had I made some other choices. Would I have been better off or much worse off in overall terms? We gain some, lose some - is always the case. My working life is truly over and I am well into retirement. However, choices never cease. There are a few who implore me to invest for the “long term”! I feel amused by that term thrown at me now. I tell them my future is in the past! However, I still have choices to make though most are mundane. Something tells me time is running out and there is no point to waste on frivolous pursuits though I hardly had them any time in my life. The choices too change for us subtly with the passage of time. Time goes in one direction; no moment is repeated. Some are looking for new challenges, come what may, but I need the push factor to get out of my comfort zones. How do you make use of the choices presented to you all the time? We do make decisions in our lives most of the time. Some may be easy some may be not.

Rightly said. You have given an interesting take. It's all upto an individual to decide out of the choices offered. I don't think much after I took the decision, no matter what the outcome

We have to live with our decisions than looking for scapegoats. All the important decisions in my life have been made by me taking my wife into confidence. The choices come with both sides too and one should not think it is the end of the world when things turn sour, not what we had expected.

I face everyday as a daily challenge. Each little success I consider it.a momentous moment. There is nothing too late unless deadlines fell due. Everyday is a new beginning, a fresh start.

It is in a way better to close the books every day and look at life afresh the next day. I was keen on that while I was working to reduce my stress. Nature does the same too and sets an example for us.

@florelway At times even the sun and moon can be seen at the same time in the sky. They play such complementary roles and each is needed for our survival too. Without our parents, we will not see the light of the day here. They give a start and then it is up to us. We are all unique and have enough space here to play a meaningful role.

@Shiva49 absolutely. The Moon takes a rest during the day and the sun rests at night. They can never be together and each gives us light in distinct ways. We can never choose moon during daytime nor we can choose sun during night time. We have no choice but to live up with it. Yes we are faced with a myriad of choices in our lives but not at all times that we can choose what we want, we can never choose our parents, but we can choose our partner. It's just a matter of enjoying the things that are given to us.

That is the way - never give up. If You're Going Through Hell, Keep Going said Winston Churchill and that is real motivation.

Being in the attitude of gratitude every moment of the day is my survival and having said that what I see on the horizon as being a possibility to achieve I go for it,, giving it a cut off day or date. . if I fail to achieve what is lined up I move on with no regrets. The satisfaction is I atleast tried. Have a nice day

Thank you, same to you too. Counting the countless blessings is my way too. I live with an open mind, a spirit of inquiry, making choices that benefit society in general. That attitude acts as the softest pillow, a clear conscience, to look forward to another day, and if it is the last, it is the greatest blessing then. Yes, trying and failing is better than not trying at all.

My approach is not to separate my daily life and my spiritual pursuits. That means I always take our creator on board. I am less into rituals as I found some just get over them and then feel they can do whatever they want. I wish you luck.

I don't have that many presented to me at present other than the possibility of retiring. But my husband needs my insurance until at least next April. Until he can get on the government plan I cannot retire. But I may not retire right away anyway. I might just opt to go down to fit days per week rather than five. My main choice in faced with daily right now is whether I'll stick to following keto strictly so I can't continue losing weight or have a few meals with carbs with my husband. But I don't want to gain what I've worked so hard to lose.

Agreed, some choices are not negotiable as they depend on the circumstances we find ourselves in. When I was able to, I called it quits with regard to my retirement. Looking after my mother took priority over work and I was caught in between. Thankfully, I had enough savings to see me through my final years on this blessed place.

Making decisions with an eye on the future is like bringing the future to the present too and taking care of it. Wise choices are like insurance against uncertainties.

What keeps us alive, who knows really, but if we are alive, we should wisen up, and try to make better choices, as we go along. When it boils down to it, there is only ever one choice to make, the best choice; so we should always endeavour to follow our inner guidance, rather than reactively bite the choice first, only with our minds, rather than digest it more, with our hearts first. A good choice comes from all parts of us chipping into the decision.

@Shiva49 Yes, a considered decision, beats a rushed one every time, perhaps except where you are standing next to a snake, and need to move away from it as fast as is possible. A quick reaction saves the day, there, rather than a delay.

@innertalks I have heard when an elephant charges to stand our ground. Hmm - easier said than done!!! I heard a group was out in the wild to take snaps of wildlife. They startled a lone elephant. All ran except one to take one last snap of the pachyderm. Well, it did prove his last one!!!

I have seen a few make a considered decision after evaluating the choices from all angles. They even pick others' brains and show patience too. Some make emotional choices that may not work out well with others out to take advantage too. Then the spur of the moment, off the cuff, decisions. It depends on the type of decision for me. When I was working, I played it safe as I had to face the music of others that could be quite grating! Much easier when it is personal. I agree we grow wiser with age. I always kept others' interests too as it was lighter on my conscience.
