Imposter Sydrome

To put it simply, imposter syndrome is the experience of feeling like a phony—you feel as though at any moment you are going to be found out as a fraud—like you don't belong where you are, and you only got there through dumb luck. - Copied from the interwebs via VeryWellMind.com That's how I am feeling lately. I guess you might say it started yesterday, but it really seems to be hitting today. I just tried crocheting something and messed up. This WAS the first time I used this technique though I have used similar. I kept going, but I'm not satisfied with it. I know this is okay, that it was the first try and I DID WELL but that doesn't stop me from feeling like fraud. I know this too shall pass, but at the moment I guess I'm sitting in these feelings. Do you ever feel this way? Reference for those who want to learn more :

I know how you feel, but unfortunately I have no solution. Maybe it just takes a while to pass.

I think you are right. We just have to let it pass when it will.

@Nevena83 Today I feel as if my mind is blanking a lot. I start to think and I can not get the thought to complete. It feels like I am forcing it, you know?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, we often try to fight bad emotions, and then it happens to get worse, I just think it takes time.

It will pass. As for your crocheting project like you said it is the first time doing this pattern so give it time.

@Tina30219 I hope so. I have a hobby lobby order coming on Friday. I may do some crocheting tonight, but today I focused more on finishing a big pillow for myself. Might list a few things that were my moms that I tried to sell to the thrift store and they didn't take.

Thank You! Oh and thank you for all the pretty things you've tagged me in. It's given me some inspiration. I think I am going to try to do some market bags again, using a different pattern than what I was doing before and list them.

A fraud? But I think you genuinely tried - that is what is most important. Dumb luck - oh yah - I often think I get more dumb luck than good luck .

@ScribbledAdNauseum We are our own hardest critics. Sorry about the stress . . . that one I definitely feel but have not shared here. Life is ball of insanity sometimes. Oh, camping sounds great - I hope you can go. Change of scenery and activities is good .

@much2say Right. I try to keep my life private on here now, at least for the most part. Still, sometimes one needs to just vent.

Right. I'm telling myself at least I tried. It's tying in to a lot of stress I'm feeling at the moment too. Might be going camping this weekend (still haven't rightly decided) and if I do, that will be a good time to just unwind.

I got promoted up to an agency director position at a very young age, not many years removed from the bumbling college drunk I was. Most of my peers were much older, most approaching retirement age, so I felt like a fraud for being in the position at such a young age. I had to work extra hard just to prove myself, but in the end it paid off.

I bet those older peers didn't help much. They were probably a little resentful for how fast you moved up, wherein it took them years to get to the positions they were in.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Most of them were pretty nice about it, and very welcoming, but you're right, there were some who felt I didn't belong in the big boys club.

I hope that feeling passes because you are certainly not a fraud. Sometimes I used to wonder how I was given the position I had at various companies -- I even had my own business at one point -- and I suppose I felt like a fraud too...but it didn't upset me.

I do feel better this morning. I have a plan of action for the day, and well I am starting my day coloring. That really helps me focus. How was cleaning day yesterday? I think we all feel like frauds at one point in our life. It's human nature for us to compare ourselves to others, and yet therein lies the problem.

@LindaOHio I will look for that then. Seems like you accomplished a lot. We have big trash day coming up, so really I need to get started looking through what I can.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'm glad you feel better. I wrote an update about yesterday. We put away a whole bunch of clothes, donated about 1/2 of a garbage bag full and threw away some that were not suitable for donation.

It certainly can. I am going to try to take today to just reflect on what I have accomplished. Might color after while, haven't done that at all today.

@CarolDM Maybe a movie later. Oh and I do think that One Chicago Wednesday is happening this week. For some reason I thought it was an off week, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Thank You. I've learned over the years that the best way for me to get over them is to be honest about them. I tell mylot sometimes, but even when I don't, I tell my closest friends. They (the friends) usually tell me they love me, that the feeling will pass and that they are here if I need a hug or someone to talk to.

As a writer, I find myself in this situation often. Sometimes I cannot believe I wrote what I did. Not feeling I am good enough to have put that piece together. I understand it is a common affliction for writers, even Neil Gaiman claims to have bouts of it hit him. What I do is shake my head and start writing again.
