Buying things base on impulse

May 27, 2021 10:36am CST
I just cannot understand why some people tend to spend money easily. Even though, there is a saying, think before you spend, it seems like some people do not really think before spending their hard-earned money. As some people, spend and buy things base on their impulse. That, in a snap, the cash that they have seemed to decrease easily. In this regard, I am wondering, is the saying "think before you spend" is still effective, or maybe, this saying is just for idiomatic purpose only.

@jiangjuno @marlina @porwest Albert Einstein is said to have said, "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

I think it can happen sometimes and then regret later. But I still believe that there are people to that stick to the rule.

It really should be like this. You should think before buying for several factors the most important is the economic aspect and secondly I would place the "I want it or do I need it?" If the answer is the first one, we are probably making a not very good investment.

I used to be like that but now I've stopped. Now I only buy things online from Amazon if I have an Amazon gift card to pay for it with!

@jiangjuno Yes it is. I usually only use part of the gift card and the remainder gets saved to my account and so I'm saving it up for something larger like a small desk top painting easel that I want.

LOL. I agree. Like I am not an impulsive buyer until I really have the need for it. I think to myself what other things could be bought instead of this.

"Think before you spend" is actually a very smart thing to do. At the end of the day, while saving is important, one DOES need to enjoy some of their money. The problem is people don't realize that enjoying money if you HAVE it is one thing. Enjoying money while having nothing to fall back on is a very bad idea and wasteful. Before one spends one should ask some very important questions to determine if they can AFFORD to spend. Am I saving enough for retirement? Do I have enough money stashed away in case of an emergency or sudden job loss? Can I pay cash for what I am about to spend on? Of course, there are other questions. But if the answer is no to any of these, then the spending is probably not a good idea.

I am an impulsive buyer too. I easily get attracted with buy 1 take 1 promos, etc.. good thing I lessen shopping nowadays due to pandemic. I often buy now through online stores and I just avoid browsing online shops to prevent myself from buying impulsively.
