May ends, and with it the monthlong salute to Motown. Dang, I only scratched the surface, so I’ll have to do this again!! Thanks again to @Dena91 , who suggested a Motown countdown. She probably didn’t know it’d blossom into this! To close out, here’s my favorite Marvin Gaye song. #1: You’re a Wonderful One Yeah baby! One of my best friends sent me a tape in 1980, where Glenn Frey stopped by a radio station in Dallas during the Eagles’ The Long Run tour, and played “guest DJ” for an hour. He closed the show out with this song. I had never heard it until 1980. And I wondered where I had been all its life. WOWZA, what a song. What makes it great? Well, Holland/Dozier/Holland, of course, and the Supremes singing backup. But mostly, just that great voice of Marvin Gaye. As the Commodores’ “Nightshift” said, Gaye “could sing his song, his heart in every line.” Isn’t it the truth. Thanks for reading.
