Today's song in my head has a bittersweet history. Selena Quintanilla Perez was born April 16, 1971 and was murdered on March 31, 1995 at the age of 23. She was the top selling Latin artist of the 1990s and was primed to make a huge splash in the United States with her crossover album when she was shot by her friend and boutique manager, Yolanda Saldivar. Evidence had come to light that Saldivar had been stealing from Selena through fan club receipts, etc.; and Saldivar apparently couldn't handle the scandal. Selena's crossover album, "Dreaming of You", was released posthumously in 1995. I have this album and highly recommend it. I also recommend seeing the movie about her life that was released in 1997 ("Selena"). It stars an unknown at the time, Jennifer Lopez, as Selena and catapulted her into stardom. Lopez does a stellar job in portraying Selena; and the music from the movie is awesome! "Dreaming of You" is the song in my head. The movie was on again last night; and I can't shake this beautiful song. What song/s is/are in your head today?
