When the power went off.

It is hot now a day and you need to switch on your AC to ward off the effect of the heat and humidity. I was in deep sleep early in the morning and power went off. There is a backup through inverter; therefore the room fan was running. After sometime I came to know that it is not normal break down from the electricity department but something has gone wrong in our home. I could not find the electric fault and had to wait till 9.00 am so that I could request an electrician to come and check it. It is really tricky when such incident happens early in the early morning and you just cannot call an electrician at that time. He came and rectified the fault and electricity was restored. Has any such incident happened with you and if so, what did you do?

Actually, one of the Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB) stopped functioning and power went off. It was old and probably had worn out. The Electrician restored the supply when he came in the morning and later he replaced the MCB with a new one. It is good that you do not face such kind of problems.

@LadyDuck That seems a wonderful practice to follow. Here, there is no such practice and even if Government lays down such practice, some people do not follow it in its right earnest. It is good that the technician replaced the MCB etc. in your house and you do not have to worry on this account.

@dpk262006 It is mandatory here to have all your electric power checked every 15 years. The technician came to check ours two years ago. He changed one MCB and a couple of sockets inside the house.

It is irritating when power goes off at night when you are fast asleep particularly during this hot season. Power failure is just normal here but I don't remember that is happening due to fault in our building electrification.

Yes, when power cut takes place specially in hot and humid summer, it gets very irritating. Power failure takes places sometimes but normally power is restored within half an hour. Actually, one of the Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB) stopped functioning and power went off. It was old and probably had worn out. The Electrician restored the supply when he came in the morning and later he replaced the MCB with a new one.

@dpk262006 Reinstating the MCB would have solved your problem temporarily. We do it quite often for individual flats.

Glad you got it fixed. I always check the breaker when the power goes out. Usually it's storms that causes the power to go out.

Yes, the power was restored and we took a sigh of relief, because it is very hot here at present. Yes, you are right that storms could cause power break down.

I read this comment of yours and it made you laugh, you will not believe it but it made me laugh not the fact that it happened to you, but what happens to me in my country, it is already a joke that causes laughter to see how in normal countries like yours , it is strange that there is a blackout. In mine they happen every day, for several hours, we have lasted up to 5 days without electricity, electrical appliances are damaged and a thousand more consequences, and all due to the lack of maintenance of the electrical infrastructure. For us it is already customary for example to be writing right now here, and suddenly a blackout, we can only say a few bad words and wait for the electric power to be restored and pray to God that nothing has been damaged.,

It really seems scary that at your place power breakdown occurs for hours together and sometimes it happens all of sudden. Power breakdown affects your electrical equipment and you suffer it. However, in my case it was a electrical fault within the home, which caused the power going off. An MCB went out of order, which we later on got replaced by an electrician.

@dpk262006 Yes, friend, you explained well that your problem was internal, a breakdown in your house. I mention it because of the comparison that I make with respect to the concern of many people in other countries, who are surprised when there is a blackout, when here it sometimes happens to the entire country or to most of the states that make it up.

In the long life we had - did many different things. In olden days, would go out and the breeze would be cooler. In the medieval times, would make arrangements to keep the indoors cool. In the concrete jungles, nothing much to do except to sweat and wait.

You are absolutely right that in the olden times, our houses used to be airy and fully ventilated and even during power cuts we used to manage. However, now every inch of space is used to built the house and that badly affects the ventilation.

Yes, it really sucks when power goes off in your house only and it is there in neighborhood. It is good that when it happened with you, your father knew how to fix it and that way problem would not have lasted longer.
