Might have a contract by the end of the school year

That would be within 2 weeks. We haven't had a settled and ratified contract in over 18 years. That is a BIG deal. We started this 20-21 school year without a contract. The union and Board of Education went back and forth and back and forth until they decided neither was going to budge any further and impasse was declared. They applied for a state mediator. In the meantime the superintendent retired and we wound up with an interim one. We had him before several years ago and he helped to get a contract settled. Seems like he is doing the same thing this time. I am pretty easy to get a "yes" from: give me a raise each year and keep my benefits the same.

What do you do if you don't have a contract? Are you supposed to keep working at the previous pay with the same benifits?

Yes everything stays the same until we get a new contract. This year's contract wasn't passed until Feb so we got retroactive pay for our raises which was nice.

How long a contract last? Teaching contract here used to be for one to two years.
