Maybe it's carpal thumb!

OK, I am kidding there, must people have heard of carpal tunnel syndrome with the wrist, but I have something going on with my thumb. It is actually the muscles and ligaments surrounding the thumb that seem to be inflamed. They don't hurt for the most part, but sometimes when I am doing something with my hand I feel them. I think I hurt them when I was cutting things down in the back, and using alot of equipment to cut brush. I suppose it will go away eventually. Did you ever hurt muscles or ligaments in your hand?

I believe that it is somewhat common to be honest with you. That doesn't help you with the discomfort, but it may help you with finding a fix for it.
MCP Thumb Splint The goal of the MCP thumb splint is to help support thumbs. Commonly used for stabilizing or supporting a weakened MCP thumb joint. It will stop hyper-extension and take the stress off of the this joint as well as preserve function when co

@Juliaacv Like I said I don't notice it often, but I know it's there. I am just trying to avoid putting any stress on it, and hoping it will go away. I think it will..if it gets worse I will try one of those splints for sure.

@snowy22315 Yes, it has to be worth looking into for comfort. Some of the digi splints that they make actually look like rings, but they are functional, which is the most important thing.

Sometimes I think I get crochet fingers if I crochet for long periods of time and day after day my fingers do get stiff and achy. Hope your thumb feels better and it's nothing more than overuse cutting your bushes. Maybe it's from using your phone too much?

Probably not, I don't use my phone that much. The lawn equipment is a much better bet... I have heard of over texters having problems though! I hope your crochet projects are worth the finger pain.

@snowy22315 I remember people complaining about having thumb pain when playing video games. Yes my crocheting is worth the pain but mostly I try not to overdo it.

You might try a splint or brace to help immobilize the thumb for a while--

@divalounger It doesn't bother me all the time..just at certain times I feel it. It doesn't really hurt unless I am touching the specific problem area.

I have and they still hurt. Partly due to arthritis partly due to using the same motions for work. I actually had shots put in my wrists for carpal tunnel syndrome as my hand usage was below 50% when tested. Thankfully that was enough, plus wearing a brace at nighttime, to help them relax and improve the usage number again. I have had friends who have had surgery on theirs in order to not have constant pain. Have you tried to rub some ointment on the area to see if it will give you some relief?

Not really, it doesn't really hurt exactly...it is just kind of an uncomfortable feeling sometimes. It feels like the ligaments got damaged or something. I think trying not over stretch or hyperextend the area will be good. Sis had to wear those braces for carpal tunnel, wearing them at night was enough for her. I don't think she needs them now though.

Yes, I think anytime you put repeated stress on those ligaments or bones they can get damaged a bit.

This could be a mild sprain I guess. I am trying not to do anything that overextends the muscles now. Give them a chance to heal.
