Yesterday too depressing for the song selection? Fear not, as today’s song with “queen” in the title will make you dance and chuckle. You gotta have the mix, and I do! Here’s today’s song.
#7: Roller Derby Queen - Jim Croce
Ah, the 1970s. We not only had rasslin’ we had roller derby!!!! Infinitely more fun that wrestling because you just couldn’t fake it if you fell accidentally on your roller skates.
They made movies about it, too! Most notable was Raquel Welch in Kansas City Bomber. And, if you think about it, James Caan’s 1975 classic Rollerball was basically roller derby taken to the next (and far more violent) level.
So of course we’d have a song about it! Enter the great Jim Croce, who accomplished so much music in his 30 short years that your head spins when you think about “what could have been.”
I’ve linked a live version below where he provided an introduction so detailed all I can add is “enjoy this.”
So….enjoy this!

I know. Sometimes the stories are better than the songs.

I know this one well. Croce was another great artist taken before his time.
