Mom’s First of Two Appointments....

So my Mom had her first of two appointments today. This one was with her cardiologist. I guess it went well, at least in terms of getting some answers. My Mom has been feeling sick after eating for several weeks now. Not EVERY time she ate, but a few times a week and that's enough. We already knew she had a hiatal hernia, but we had to wait for appointments and such to see if that’s what is causing it. According to the cardiologist, it IS the hernia causing it, and she has been cleared by the cardiologist to go ahead with the surgery. She just needs to schedule the surgery first, and then she'll have a stress test closer to the date, just to double-check on things and make sure surgery is still a good option. Personally, I think this should’ve been taken care of last year, but I guess with the pandemic and the hernia not being as bad, they didn’t feel it was necessary to rush it at the time. Welp, I have a different opinion on that but okay. I’ll probably go to the hospital on the day of her surgery. Restrictions are being lifted here in Maryland on July 1st, but the hospital may have its own policy. If I have to wait in the car, then so be it. I don’t care. But, once the hernia is taken care of, she’ll start feeling better. So at least we have an answer on why she’s been feeling icky as of late. Also, my Mom’s medication has also been adjusted and we’re going to have to monitor her blood pressure (we have an at-home kit). Luckily, she’s been drinking water. Anyway, her second appointment is tomorrow, which is with our primary doctor. He didn’t think it was the hernia causing Mom to feel sick, but I don’t care, she’s scheduling the surgery. I like him overall, I’m just not playing around when it comes to my Mom’s health. And that’s the current update on my Momma. I’ll be back later. Photo Credit: Pixabay.

Stalling with this surgery was wrong, I'm glad she's finally having it taken care of.

Yeah, he's usually a good doctor overall, and her being a heart patient (in the midst of a pandemic) probably complicates things, but I would've rather she got it taken care of THEN. I'm glad she is too, thank you.

@tammys85 With your mother feeling so terrible, it's time for that hiatal hernia to be fixed.

@kobesbuddy It definitely needs to be fixed. I think she's going to talk to our primary doctor about scheduling the surgery tomorrow.

That's good to hear that they found out that is what is causing it and it can be taken care of. Hopefully they'll let you go in. Here they let one visitor go with the person for most things.

I hope so. Restrictions are being lifted in MD on 7/1, but I wouldn't be shocked if hospitals keep them in place; they can't take any risks. And thank you so much. I'm not thrilled that she's going to need surgery, but that's how a hernia is repaired.

@MommyOfEli2013 Thank you very much. The surgery is postponed for now. We need to get her other health issues in order before putting her under for surgery will even be a consideration, especially since we've since been told by multiple doctors that her hernia isn't causing the problem. I was misinformed about the cardiologist stating it was the hernia. None of the doctors feel it's hernia-related. I'm sure it'll eventually be taken care of, but her other health issues are of higher priority right now.

@tammys85 That's good that they are being lifted there soon....hopefully at least one can go in. Well that is good that she can at least get it repaired....even though surgery is not a wanted thing of course.

I completely agree. Last year, many people ignored possible life-threatening problems because of the pandemic. Doctors opted not to do what they considered "elective" surgury. I'm just sorry that your mother had to wait until things got this serious to have something done.

@tammys85 I know, and I agree. It's funny what some people will think is serious and what they don't.

@kaylachan It may not have been as serious at the time, and they try not to do surgery until it's needed because of her heart issues. I just don't agree with it not happening any sooner because I was afraid of this --- it leading to other issues. I think she's going to talk to the primary doctor about scheduling it tomorrow.

My Mom is considered high risk and wasn't vaccinated at the time, so I do sort of understand why they didn't want to risk it at the time. But at the same time, I think this should've been taken care of when it was discovered, because now it's causing her problems, and a hernia HAS to be taken care of at some point. :(
