It is already hot, but June is only half over.

Stay cool, this summer. Drink plenty of water. It seems like the Western states of the USA are already above normal temperatures and Texas is no exception. There is a clear possibility that since there have been already several Russian hacks of businesses and infrastructure such as the beef industry and the gas pipeline from Texas and other businesses, the Texas Power Grid needs to exercise extreme caution and make sure the grid stays up this summer. So far, there has only been one local instance of a 10 second power outage locally, in Dallas. Local news reporters have announced that the power companies that supply Texas residents to keep their thermostats at about 78 degrees to prevent a possible blackout. We are told that there is an ozone alert also. It seems like we are better off going out only in the early hours of the mornings and staying indoors most of the rest of the day and night. And due to heavy rain we have another thing to be concerned about and that is, West Nile Virus from mosquitoes. Water levels in some Western states are down by about 30% in some cases. This year, rather, this summer will be a real challenge for about 2/3rds of the US population overall. It's going to be one long & hot summer. Stay safe and stay hydrated.

Long summers are not fun, if water levels go down ,then it's not a good thing at all. Stay safe

@prashu228 Yes water scarcity is an alarming fact across the world- be it a developed nation or a developing one.

It's been hot and dry here, we got up to 109f which isn't as bad as what AZ is getting but still hot as all git out. Luckily there's no humidity here so it didn't feel all that bad. The weather peeps aren't getting the preditions quite right though, we were supposed to be about 101f today but it only got up to 99f.

That is one thing I don't have to worry about anymore--the ozone warnings. I don't miss that at all from Baton Rouge. I used to get sick from the chemical smells from all the plants on the way to work every morning. Then after I developed asthma, it got worse. You forgot to throw in hurricane season in your mix. It looks to be starting out pretty active and on the third storm that should be named soon.

I a sorry that you developed asthma. I have bronchitis and had it most of my life. I live where traffic is usually high and congested. The cars and trucks do enough to pollute the air we breath. And the population is growing. Yea I failed to mention hurricane season. It should be expected that the Atlantic will produce a lot of them.

@lookatdesktop Yes, the cars exhaust are also a big problem.

@kareng The catalytic converters do a pretty good job at reducing emissions of toxic pollutants. But not all cars would pass FDA standards for emissions testing.

I went out at 6:45 to sweep the driveway and brush off the leaves on our car and the outside humidity is significant. I broke a sweat at 79 degrees and it's only 7:09 AM central time. It's going to be a partly sunny hot and humid day. good for the plants and the birds don't seem to care.

They are now spraying in evenings, for West Nile all over the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

@lookatdesktop I didn't know that. I always wonder which is the best alternative--the spray or the mosquitos.

@misunderstood_zombie I don't put water out for birds any more. So I am at least not providing a medium for mosquitoes to grow in. I have OFF spray in case I need it. Long sleeve shirts when doing gardening work. The spray that is used breaks down shortly after sunlight and only kills for a brief period during the hours the mosquitoes are most active. If you get exposed to the spray, simply shower it off.

It is only going to get worse. Some say there will be a blue ocean event, aka BOE within a year or two. I don't know exactly when that will be though. But the Arctic is melting and getting thinner every year.

Today is a nice summer day in Germany. The temperature is hardly ever unbearable here. The problem we have at the moment is the severe flooding in some parts of Germany due to excessive rain.

That sounds worrisome. Time for switching more to electric vehicles. Plus implement Rain Water Harvesting and other water saving measures on a large scale. To counter mosquitoes, the ancient Indian way of burning Neem Leaves (practiced very less even in India as well) and fogging through chemicals can help. We do see annual Malaria and Dengue spreads in rainy season but hopefully you would have cleaner places. Still mosquito repellent creams and sprays can help.

Are there vaccines being given to help slow the spread of Malaria and Dengue ? They spray for West Nile here in Texas as the mosquitoes are generally known for the spread of this particular virus in our general geographic region.
