Well, it was a thought...

Photo I took of my still-leaning shepherd's hook.

This morning when she picked me up for church, the pastor's wife brought a bucket of sand to put in the tin bucket to hold up the shepherd's hook I got. I couldn't find the tools that I brought from home, so I went to a couple of neighbors, and the second one had a hammer and nails (plus pliers I could hang on to the nails with). I brought them back to the apartment, went to the porch, then hammered half a dozen holes in the bottom of the bucket (I plan to plant poppies in it once I get some soil to fill up the bucket and wanted it to be able to drain). I returned the tools and nails, then put the shepherd's hook back in the bucket and filled it with the sand. Hm. The shepherd's hook still leaned. Sand wasn't thick enough to hold it up straight. I thought of the gardener's wire I bought to bind the other gardener's hook to the screen-type stuff on the other side of the patio, and wondered if I could make the hook stand straight by rigging something with the wire--attaching it to the shepherd's hook and then the handles on the bucket. It might not look super neat, but if it made the hook stand up...

It's been my experience that apartments aren't built that well. We've watched stuff go up, and the structures don't look very strong. Sure they will be safe, but they also don't like stuff added to them. Good luck trying to get that thing to work.

I hope that it works out for you and the plants enjoy the space to grow in
