Okay, and now you know the #1 “king” song, too. Gee, didn’t you really know all the time?! Meanwhile, here’s someone who’s a repeat performer in this dual countdown: he had a “queen” song, too. So, enjoy another song by one of my favorites. #2: King of Clowns - Neil Sedaka This was a flop in the U.S. It was a single in other parts of the world. In fact, Sedaka did an Italian version (part of an all-Italian language album of tunes released in 1962). Too bad. If I do a Sedaka countdown you can look for this song near the top of the list. Yes, it may seem weird for ol’ hillbilly and Clash-lover to like Neil Sedaka, but I do. I’ve seen him twice in concert, and as I said after I saw him in 2015 (when he was 76), he could out-entertain any of these auto-tuned, costume-wearing kids today with one arthritic hand tied behind his back! So Neil gave us a “king” song as well as a “queen” song, and I’m gonna use ‘em both because I love ‘em both. I can’t help myself. I think he’s incredible. There’s a video of him on YouTube on I’ve Got a Secret, where he was invited to the then-USSR to play music….classical music.
