Have you ever wondered who has the best ice cream in your state? I have to confess that I haven't but when I saw this article, The Best Ice Cream in Every State ((Link Below)), I became curious.
Best Of lists often do that to me. I suspect, based on the number of these lists published every year, lots of other people have the same reaction. Even though they (The lists, not the people who read them) are often at least a little wrong---But that's another topic for another day.
I can't vouge for the accuracy of this one---I like ice cream but I'm hardly an expert---But the choices seem reasonable to me. This list also has a personal bonus for me.
I have been to four of the places on it. The Best Ice Cream Places (According to this list) in Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania to be exact. That's rare. These food lists hardly ever pick places I've been to. On the Best Albums lists, I usually have a few but it almost never happens on the lists of restaurants, bars, hotels and the like.
That's about all I have to say for this one. Look at the list if it interests you and see if you agree with the choices. If you want to turn it into a 50 State Ice Cream Road Trip, I can tell you that Iowa and Illinois are going to be easy.
Wilton, the location of the best place in Iowa, is only 35 miles from Moline, the location of the best place in Illinois. That's about a 40-minute drive, so you can knock off both states in about an hour if you spend 10 minutes in each store. That might make up for the time it's going to take getting to and from Hawaii and Alaska.

I like ice cream but would never drive far for any. I'm good with Vanilla Bean or Salted Caramel from Walmart.

I like Walmart ice cream, too. I get the one that comes in the big plastic tub, I think it's called Farm Rich

It's strange that the older I get the more I love Vanilla. In the past it was just boring but not anymore.

@xander6464 I like chocolate flavor but like other flavors according to mood. Sometimes two combinations are also loved together

The only one I have been to is Dumsers in Maryland. The best ice cream is so subjective though..there is a place near here that alot of people are crazy about one of those dairy sort of places..where the milk and cream are fresh..I have to say, it is probably not the best ice cream I have ever had..not worth the expense really..All those farm to table kind of places are expensive.

@xander6464 Yeah, as long as you aren't getting cut rate bargain basement stuff it's all pretty good..but some is a bit tastier. I hade some from a Homestead Creamery I think is the name near Harrisonburg which was super excellent. Have you ever had Schwans?

And at a certain level, I think they're all equally good. And I agree with you that they're often not worth the expense.

They didn't go into any detail as to how they made the choices. It makes the whole thing seem a little arbitrary.

This one wasn't clear about how they did it. Sometimes, these things are done by reader's polls but usually, it's just a bunch of reporters or critics.

@xander6464 Probably best to choose independent outlets. If you just put 'Ben and Jerrys' in ten towns it might not be very believable

That is good news. I rarely eat ice cream but make smoothies instead, though every once in a while ice cream is the only thing that satisfies.

@xander6464 I like the strawberry-banana combination and when I can afford it cherries, blueberries and mangoes. I also juice kale, carrots and others and pour it in my smoothies. It taste a little odd but not too bad.
