Boy, you know it’s a hard countdown when this song shows up at the bottom!! Welcome to my countdown of my favorite sax solos in songs. To Linda’s delight, no country music will show up in this countdown (since there’s just not that much saxophone work in country music). However, to NJ Chic’s dismay, these guys will…. #10: Deacon Blues - Steely Dan Puke on, NJ Chic. Here’s the song that told us to “learn to work the saxophone.” And a gorgeous workout it gets, thanks to Pete Christlieb’s tenor work. It’s my favorite Steely Dan song. One of my favorite songs of the 70s, period. One of my favorite songs, period. So let’s all (well, everyone except NJ Chic) enjoy this superb classic yet again. I think it’s probably the only song in the 70s that had the word languid in it.

If that's at the bottom, I can't imagine what's at the top. I often hear this tune on Jazz.FM Love it.

@myklj999 — you’ll have a lot of great sax for the next hour or so! If I ever did a countdown of best openings to a song, “Black Cow” would be high on the list.

Can't say as I like this one; and I'm not familiar with Steely Dan's music at all.
