As I’ve said, this is a tough countdown! For today’s song with a great saxophone solo I’m turning to an obvious and iconic sax riff. Can you believe it’s this “low” on the countdown? I know. TOUGH countdown!!! #8: Turn the Page - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band It’s not really a “sax solo” in the sense that other solos are on this countdown. No, it’s just five notes that convey the absolute pain and loneliness Bob Seger pours out in the lyrics to one of his most iconic tunes. Thomas Cartmell was the actual name of the man we all know and love as Alto Reed. He passed away from cancer on December 30, 2020, not too long after Seger called it a career in touring. He could play anything, from the smoking, jumping “Betty Lou’s Gettin’ Out Tonight” to the celebratory work in “Old Time Rock and Roll.” But when you hear those five notes that open “Turn the Page,” you’re transported. God bless Alto Reed. Thanks for the great music. Turn the Page Written by Bob Seger Recorded by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band From Live Bullet, 1976 (Also from Back in '72, 1973) Saxophonist: Alto Reed Smoke the day’s last cigarette:
Bob Seger's alltime hit performed in the best possible way!

Yeah he was an amazing sax player. I was at the concert when they recorded Turn the Page on this live album. They used to put on such a great show at Cobo in Detroit.

I saw them twice, and I’ll tell you Seger is one of the most energetic performers I’ve ever seen live.

@FourWalls I have seen them 3 times I believe. I went to a concert in Detroit for Against the Wind, and a couple of months later again but in Toronto. He didn't play as passionately for that crowd in Toronto as he did in Detroit, and understandably so. He is full of energy, I suppose that explains the may decades of performing.
