Dachshunds

United States

I recently saw a video about dachshunds and the way their bodies have transformed over the years. Dachshund is German for badger dog or dog badger, and they were bred to hunt, you guessed it, badgers. They now have longer bodies and shorter legs which causes some health issues with their spines. My son has a chiweenie which bites first and asks question later, but is very loving to his family. There is one thing special about them and that is the puppies are so cute. We had a dachshund when I was a kid. He was a gentle demanding dog. Demanding when it came to the dog who lived across the road from us. He would bark at him until he turned to leave, and then he would bark at him again as if to ask, where are you going? It was funny to watch.

We have had several doxies over the years. One of my daughters and I used to raise them for a couple of years. As she got older and more involved with dating and such, we stopped raising them. They have the best personalities!!

My grandchildren have one at their other grandparents and they say she is very calm, but I've heard stories that some have strong personalities. That's a fun memory of raising them with your daughter.

@misunderstood_zombie Our first one, Fudge, a chocolate doxie, was supposed to be my daughter's but he bonded to me. It was so hard getting rid of the cute little puppies.

Is the chiweenie a Chihuahua and dachshund cross? They are funny dogs. Baby dachshunds are really cute.

Yes, they are cute little things but I'm not sure if these two breeds should ever cross. I thought they were so cute also.

That chiweenie is not taking chances. Better attack first no matter what.

He lived in my house before my son took him. If I opened the door when he was loose--he would just run up and start biting people's legs. It was overwhelming. I was glad my son took him.

It's a cross between a dachshund and a chihuahua, so I'm not sure whose great idea this was but I don't think a good one.

Chihuahuas are already nasty on their own but mix these two together and it's not good.
